S14 with R33 GTS-T brakes journey
My 1995 240sx LE has been 5 lug hub swapped front and R33 GTS-T calipers and rotors with Z32 pads bolted to the front, the s14 backing plate replaced onto the R33 GTS-T rear knuckles with their 5 lug hubs and calipers and rotors bolted on. This car has variously been a DD, Drift, autoX car and has had many miles on this setup. Now it's time for a refresh!
So I've had trouble over the years finding information on the brakes I put on my car long ago and I have decided to write a lil whatever on what I'm up too. I welcome feedback and answers that come from this communities experience with all things Nissan and if you have solutions or feedback please do share. I will edit this as I succeed/fail The story... 10+ years ago I bought a set of used knuckles I were told was from an R33 GTS-T. The rotors were nearly new and I was able to bolt these onto my 1995 240sx in the front directly after swapping to a 5-lug hub. I was able to attach the back brakes and hubs by swapping backing plates and the rest of the knuckle bolted right up to include attaching the existing drum ebrake cables that came with the hubs. These brakes are super big for a stock KA setup and waaaayyyyy more than I needed but they were economical and an easy solution at the time while I had a JDM importer in my town. Now, many years later the car has had many road and track miles on it and on these brakes and it's time to do a tune up on the brakes. I can't just call AutoZone here in the USA and ask for R33 GTS-T brakes however, it's a bit more complicated than that. Also, while they look similar - they are not the same specs as the Z32 300zx brakes that is the most common solution for big brakes on this chassis, they are a bit different. So I remember finding out from research waaaayyyyy back in the day that these were 296x30mm rotors, I delved into finding replacements but I keep finding my way back to Japanese sites I can't decipher or Disc Brakes Australia rotors which are prohibitively expensive (for me at least, shipping!). So I start looking around at other Nissan chassis that have similar size rotors and do basic searches for these sized rotors and I find that Y33 Infiniti Q45 has a similar sized front and rear brake rotors and an internal drum e brake setup in the rear. So here's what I'm going to attempt: Z32 front and rear pads (I know these work from previous experience when I first put the brakes on and all kinds of pads are available) 2001 Y33 front and rear rotors and drum shoes. ***Edit*** 2000 Y33 drum shoes do not work Ordered 1995 Z32 shoes which look the same Rear rotors fit fine I've got all of these parts on hand and will be fitting/installing this week. You may be asking about sizing of which is readily available through searching but I'll save you the time. 1995 Skyline GTS-T brakes are Sumitomo 4-potF/2-potR Front R33 GTS-T 2001 Q45 296x30. 297x28 Height 53.7. 53.34 Rear 292x18 292x16 H 64. 63.5 So the Q45 rotors aren't quite as beefy but we'll see how it works out! All of these specs have been found using various search methods but especially rotor provided sizes listed on RockAuto.com I welcome experience and info!
