And your not at all concernd that what you have done will be far weaker than stock.??
I've seen soo many ppl cut the absolute shiit out of the x member to fit lsx engines. I put one in a cressida last week and just cut the sump.. was easy.. Making the new tranny tunnel will suck balls though in comparison.. |

I did mine just like that and I feel confident in it. If you use some thick plate and fully weld it all around it should be VERY stiff in the downward direction. Can you imagine trying to get that vertical plate to basically rip in two? It would be weak if you tried to twist it but that's not the load it's under.

----- Can anyone make this piece for me? I've already made one for my other motor mount but it was a huge pain in the ass since I don't have the proper tools to bend 1/4" plate. Here's a picture: http://otto-fab.com/pics/LSx_saddle.jpg

I've been working on a set of R33 headlights for someone. Finally got the right side mostly done. Just need to touch up and paint it.
They're somewhat of a replica of the lights on the Nemesis R33. Despite the negativity I have got/will get from making them and he will get from having them, I've actually had fun making them so far. Blacked out the inside and sprayed a light coat on the outside to get an idea how they will look.

You need to add something back in on the bottom or it will twist. There are threads about it on the silvia v8 forums. I own a s13 lsx coupe with a daft kit. next one I build I'm buying a sikky kit or building my own mounts. |

When I teach kids to use the lathe for the Robotics team I mentor, I usually have them start with some sort of plastic or aluminum depending on what's laying around and just have them freehand a design into it. It's a great way for a beginner to get a feel for a lathe and it's much more forgiving on tooling than steel. |

Looks old and awesome. I've been trying to find a cheap one myself. Seems like a great skill to pick up.

i dont remember what i was running probably too hot though. but that section had no filler. and it was mild steel.
full penetration though so would be a safe bet that its too hot. also poor lighting Last edited by sr20sean; 10-12-2011 at 12:17 AM.. |

I got sick of my sidemount this afternoon, so I went ahead and did a mid mount!
I do love it, I have boost at pretty much any rpm range and it just overall feels tons better. The intake still has to be redone, I don't like how the maf and stuff sits, so i'll work on that this week sometime, this was a spurr of the moment thing but came out amazing imo

It really comes down to how good you are and how familiar with the swap. |

wow.. I just finished reading 139 pages of this thread.
I've always really wanted to learn how to weld ever since I used a spot welder in gr.7 lol! Great work guys keep it up! I originally looked through this thread for ideas that Atutt and I discussed for my S14 (tube front end etc. =P big dreams haha). Question: boxing frame rails, I notice you guys just sort of weld pieces on top? doesn't that sort of just act as a band-aid ? does it retain the same strength etc.? sorry I'm a complete noob. Any word on ESAB welders? I'm in theatre production in university and the shop supervisor told me that he doesn't specialize in welding and that they have a seperate prof. come in to teach the welding course, but I'm going to try and ask some upper years to teach me how to weld and stuff. My shop at school has 2, 3' tall ESAB welders and a lincoln 140. I love this thread. |
