I'm just wondering if you had a 2j motor why did you decide to keep the 1j head, why not just put the whole 2j in there. You prob said it somewhere and sorry if you did, I want to do a 2j swap on my s14 so I just want a opinion before I start buying everything. OH and beautiful swap and car I am very jealous.

Exactly xD Really the cams made the difference. The HKS cams for these engines are stupid expensive. Also, I do go to school away from where the car is located, hence why I've been working on this non stop. I would have love to have a complete 2JZ, but this route allowed me the quickest, cheapest way to have my car up and running. Thanks for the compliments everyone. More progress today I hope! |

and as for the the motor mounts, I guess i should have said engine instead of motor. Mounts that bolt to the block, not crossmember. Last edited by h815 240sx; 12-30-2011 at 04:58 PM.. |

Update for everyone.
Engine starts, runs, and idles great. I've been running through the car fixing leaks, however. The heater hose pipe leaked, but is fixed. Next, apparently the oil drain gasket on the turbo broke, and leaked oil all over the manifold. I am going to re-make the -10 drain line with new gaskets and AN fittings. Only concern remaining is confirmed seal of the headgasket. Now, when we first started the engine, there was considerable white smoke exiting from the exhaust. - Ran the car for about 10 minutes achieving about 140 degrees, slightly milky oil cap. - Drained the oil with surprisingly almost no water/coolant in the oil. - Fresh oil, started again, ran for 15 minutes achieving nearly 170 degrees. Once the oil leaks are 100% fixed, I'll have a much more accurate confirmation of a proper headgasket seal. I will be back in town in about a week to work on the car again. - Alex |

I was wondering the same thing also, so good to know. Is the 1j exh mani able to fit the 2j head? And how did your old motor detonate? Was it bad gas, over boost, or what? Btw, you're gonna love that 2j bottom end. The extra .5L is noticeable down low and out of boost. It also helps to build boost quicker. And IMO, get a retune. |

HEY
Thank you. Only do so if you blow your 1JZ up... Powered by Max Coils 10/8. This is the GTE engine. As I understood, oil modifications were required for the GE bottom end. Quote:

Oil modifications are not need for the 1.5JZ. I have all three, a 1JZ, 1.5JZ and a 2JZ. The feed hole is on an incline.
How do I know, I did a huge write up on SupraMania.com in the 1JZ section. "JZ Swap Guide For Dummies". Name is IBoughtASupra on there where I sell catch cans as well |

As far as the JZ vs. KA-T, cost discrepancies will be significant. Build what best suits your budget and ability to maintain the engine. Quote:
I've been through that thread a few times. I'll be sure to contact you if I have any further questions regarding this headgasket sealing issue. |

Just a small update.
The 1.5J is now running beautifully. Even drove it up the street today. Anyways, the previous -10 oil drain I used on the 1J was too long. Oil was backing up and blowing out the gasket and through the seals in the turbo. I drastically shortened the oil drain which quickly alleviated that issue. I then ran the car for a solid 45 minutes, bled the cooling system. The next day, I compression tested the engine. Bam. Perfect compression across the board. What a huge sigh of relief. Drove the car around, idled at 13.5:1 A/F Ratio. Over spring break in a few weeks, I'll get the engine re-tuned for the extra displacement of the 2J bottom end. Turbo off to change the drain line. Probably the 5th or 6th time I've had it off in the past two days... About to compression test the engine. Hanging out with the 86 190E 2.3 16V. Oh yeah, then I sold all my drift spares and got all matching wheels ! Put in my matching Recaro too! So long for now. Trying to track down a HKS DLI. I'll wire that up, take it to get dyno tuned. With the HKS DLI, 2J Bottom End, and the same boost level as the 1J (18.5 PSI) I expect about 550 wheel, and about 470 torque... I'll be sure to actually take a video of the dyno this time xD |

I was about full boost on the 1J just under 3,800 RPM. I don't know on the 2J yet. I need a re-tune before I can even think about boost. I'd imagine with the extra displacement the spool time will only get quicker. |

It will be much fatter under the curve. You will hit that boost even about 800-1000 RPM sooner. That 60-1 will spool utterly quick, a 6262 will be in your future. It avoids the lag of a 67 and is super responsive for your power level.
