Just buy some used Megan Racing setup for 500 bucks and call it a day. Sub 1000 bucks is all the same nonsense.

+1

However, Cody does knows a lot about suspension.

Mind you these threads are always about ENTRY level coilovers--where the slightest difference really counts.

I have personally have gone through Megans & several sub 1000 coilovers-- now Fortunes with Swifts, there is a difference.

On the contrary, I've been in two cars with Zeals & they are A LOT better than entry level coilovers. Daily driven & track driven.

Personally, OP, I would go with a brand that is American based especially if you plan on driving hard on them. PBM & Fortune provide a good price for those rebuilds (PBM just sends you a new damper though)

Don't let the green anodizing get to your head. I'd feel bad too paying the premium for the fancy colors.

I'll admit the higher end Fortunes are a nice compromise, but not the bargain basement ones...it's the same stuff with different stickers. Seriously. The better ones seem to have nicer valving and the spring rates aren't JDM tyte...I wish I would have had more time with that car, as it felt half decent for a basically stock car.

Release the preload on the springs, turn the front's to about half to 3/4 the clicks, and put the rear on 1/4 of the clicks. So like, 24 and 8. It'll help them tremendously, as most are packaged all over the place. FWIW: 32 clicks is really like 4 or 5 total 'movements'.

A member (I forgot his username) actually got 510's on his S14, go search for that thread & read what he says about them. It's a red Kouki.

Rocking 500s with swifts right now, and it may be the placebo effect, but they do ride smoother than my old TEIN SS coils. After reading 95KA-Turbo's review, and dailing them I'm a believer.

While I wouldn't say the 500 series version 1 is something crazy nice (you know like KW, Koni, Bilstein...all of which are twice the price), they are NOT the same thing as megans. Not to mention, they've been revamping their entire line of coilovers. The Version 4s that just came out are completely different from what they've released before. They do a lot of stuff in house in the US now, its not just a rebadged coil anymore...and even when it was it was different then all of the other cheap coilovers sold in the US. If you have ever ridden/driven in a car with Fortunes you would know this.

PBM pros , they feel comfortable and the rebound feels really nice , everyone who has rode in my car always has something good to say about my coilovers and ask what brand they are , and i tell them i have PBM pro's and they're shocked because all they hear about PBM is that they're stiff coilovers not good for daily only track but i have been dailying on them for almost a year now and they are perfect , + its $200 to buy new shocks all around , twist off and twist on and bam rebuilt coilovers on the spot.

PBM FTW

$1350 price tag for PBM pros, you will never regret

510's w/ swift springs, super comfy, super responsive, not bouncy, and very good build quality.

ive been riding around on sh*tty nyc roads tucking tire for around 4mo. now , now issues, these coilovers are king. Ive also owned and drover alot of other s14 with various coils , these so far are the best ive felt.

well worth the price

After a few events I'll probably post up a review on the new stance pro-comp coils. But if you're in that price range I'd recommend taking a look at those as well as the dreadnoughts from FA. 510's with swift upgrade is the most 'basic' set anyone that wants to do more than just go low should look at.

Good to know that Fortune then is at least stepping up their game in regard to these, as I'll be the first to acknowledge that it has been a while since being in a car with the the 500 series/entry level ones...and I'm certain they were early models, as they bashed all over the place, on a moderately lowered car (not slammed). In that same regard MR may have also gotten cheaper over the past 5-6 years too.

As stated before, I did like the 510 series/professional ones in the one s13...I just wish there was more time to be had behind the wheel with it. In that same breath though, I've got a hard time buying a 1500/1600 dollar coilover when I can make my own 8611 setup for a few hundred more...regardless of it being a street car or a track car, I don't see the reason to compromise 300-400 dollars total when it comes to the night and day difference of a 8611 based setup. I can leave my personal car with a few clicks of compression and it still rides smoother (even with the sphericals) than any other car I've been in or driven.

The Koni set up is definitely pretty damn incredible, so I understand what you mean with respect to that. The biggest thing that turns me off about it is the only way to lower the car on those is to drop the spring down....and for how much the shock housings are, I would think they'd have double adjustability by now. However, I understand most people looking into the Koni set up are grip oriented, and don't plan on excessively lowering their car.

The reason that buying coils from companies like FA or FEAL is so cool, is that you can get the damper valved to look just like a dyno plot of a Koni damper for a few hundred extra, and have all the good stuff.

If you compare dyno charts, the stock 500 valving isn't that far off from the 8611 anyway.

I wouldn't waste my money on 510's unless you plan on getting them revalved right away though, they have way too much rebound.
