the insurance total my car
i got in a car accident few weeks a go ,the insurance guy came yesterday and said it was a total loss.
i know i can fix the damages with less than 500 bucks its just a lower control arm and fender but my concern is that after i fix it and want to apply for a salvaged title they r gonna want to inspect my car and i am afraid cause i have a rb20det in it . any suggestion would be appreciated thread 2 days before my accident http://zilvia.net/f/cars-sale/317032...r-cheappp.html |

I bet you wish now that you didn't report it to your insurance lol Could have fixed it yourself. Then again if there were another party involved, I'd understand why insurance is involved.

yeah insurance had to be involved cause they crashed me and my wife got hurt ,well she just got her neck hurt and shoulder thats why i called insurance.i think my best option would be to get the insurance money from my car and get a new shell

So someone hit you, there was medical involved and the other party is going to pay for your total loss, correct?
If this is the case, invoice them for the car and all aftermarket parts (incl motor). While your own insurance company will not pay out on mods (unless you purchase the additional coverage), the other insurance company does have to. You pay your own insurance knowing that at your fault, they will only pay out what youve been paying into, whereas; the other party wrecked your car and should be liable for all damages since it wasnt your fault. Geez, kinda hard to explain in text but hopefully you get it. |

their main concern is the damage caused to the car, and how much of it. They dont really care it if doesnt pass smog (or whatever you guys have in cali). but i would just get antoher shell and swap all your parts over to the new chassis, it would be easier than fixing it

Beb is correct. If you're not at fault. It's the others insurance either restores your vehicle to it's previous condition or pays you for the value of your car/parts. I just had a 2010 tundra back into my 240 parked at my shop. My insurance wouldn't cover anything because I have liability only...the other guys insurance on the other hand paid for my fender, a new vertex side skirt and front bumper and a car rental...the bill was $3400 from the body shop. but a 90 240sx in good condition isn't worth that in KBB.....ask your insurance agent, don't get dicked around by the other persons insurance, becuase you don't know any better.

then take the aftermarket stuff off. If they dont cover it, then they cant claim it as a loss. on paperwork, its not there, so they cant take it. of course theyll try and get you to buy it back, and you have to go through some hoops here and there...so it all depends. for the KBB value it would probably be easier just to buy back the chassis, and get another cheap one, and swap everything over. or you can argue the KBB value is wrong (which it is for just about any car older than 2000). there are options, just gotta find em

also get 3 estimates from ligit body shops and also find 3 of the cleanest 240sx in the auto trader in your area and print it out make a packet of it and give them the copy of the HW you did. Dont forget a parts list with costs from the dealer, do not let them give you $50 for your car as they will try to pull. |

registering a car from salvage involves an inspection , but its just a brake and brake light inspection runs 90 bucks they do not look at the motor. they just want to make sure the brakes are up to spec and that the brake lights actually work just got my Q45 done

If its your fault, find out how your ins co comes up with values for your vehicle. If they state KBB, dont waste your time on pulling #s - thatll only help if they rate on True Market Value. Also, your mods will NOT be covered unless you have the additional coverage. However, if it is the other parties fault, then take your receipts and car values. If it is not your fault, you are always entitled to having your car put back to the original form it was just before the accident, mods and all. |

But if the other party was at fault, YES they are liable to pay for everything on your car. Put up a freaking fight man... Some person, through their own fault wrecked your car - OF COURSE they are liable to pay for all your crap. Every company is going to put up a fight when paying out a claim to the opposite party, so you are going to have to fight as well, just refuse to accept payment until its something reasonable. (parts minus depreciation type of thing, dont even expect full retail reimbursement) |

Find out what requires them to declare a total loss. The problem with 240's is that theyre cheap. Most companies constitute that if the damage amount is about 70-80% of the cars value, it is a total loss.
Tell the other ins co what your value is for the car and why. You need to talk to that co and see if you guys can work something out. Usually you can, just be persistent and KNOW YOUR RIGHTS! I know its tough, but you have the upper-hand, as this was not your fault. May I ask what ins co you have and what the other party has? |
