I am going to come up for the meet with my black sr, as long as the weather cooperates and I don't have to drive in snow! (I live in Ohio, it starts snowing here around the end of August, and snows until June 15th or so).
I would like to meet up with some people and cruise together - anyone coming from this area?? Akron, Canton, Cleveland, etc? PM me if interested. Also, I would appreciate someone giving me their number so I can call if I get lost - I have never been to Chicago before, and am a little concerned about the drive. Thanks so much! Get at me! |

Met up with Eddy (JDM180SX) today for about 30 minutes. Introduced myself and chatted for a while. Im really looking forward to the meet. Ive been pretty stressed out with my car but after talking to this guy for a lil while I realized my car isnt as bad as I make it out to be. With the help of a willing few, Im sure I can find my way to a better running beast before swap time comes.

But fine you and jenne (jennifer, jenny, whatver you wanna be called), have one thing in common. But one thing you dont have in common, is she's hot and your umm... your tim "the asian plower"

I emailed jdm in plainfield about doing my swap in the spring and they told me they have not done one yet. They said that they would give me a break on the labor cost because they want the practice? It makes me a little worried. GRD in Naperville said they would do it and then dyno and set the new computer perimeters.

Yeah, doing it yourself would probably be best. GRD has a dyno but I seriously doubt they can tune Nissan ECU's unless you buy a full standalone. It would probably take them forever to finish it, assuming they even can.
I'm doing my swap myself right now so I can offer some help. I'm not a great mechanic, but I'm pretty good with wiring. |

well i'm in college; far far away from home. anyone want to offer their home/garage/driveway for me to do the swap too ^_~
i originally planed on saving up and doing the swap this summer, but the misfiring ka might be accelerating those plans if i can't fix it cheap. |

sorry this post is so damn long i'm not gonna look on every post, but did the meet get switched to sat? if so i cant make it
as for the people talking about SR swaps, yes we havent done one yet but that's only because no one has given us the opportunity to do one. we all know engine swaps are not the hardest thing in the world, as a matter of fact the only thing difficult to do is the wiring. for comparision purposes, a few years back before the H22 into EG (92-95 civic chassis) became real popular me and my friends were one of the first ones to do them and we even had a complete do-it-yourself CD circulating for quite sometime. and that was the most ridiculous wiring job from hell that i can imagine. so if we can handle that i dont see how we cant handle the SR wiring particularly since one of our guys did work on a friend's 200SX which was being equipped with a bluebird (the wiring from that one to the RWD SR should be pretty similar). but anyways of course doing it yourself is great and since a few ppl around here are available for help and with all the tools/resources available online i wouldnt see any reason why you cant do it yourself. just make sure yall come talk to us to pick up the swaps BTW i have a few S13 front end conversions in stock now and a few local guys i brought it in for flaked on them so anybody that wants or is looking for it give me a call |

Yeah I don't understand all the strife about which shop is best. I think we should just be glad that Chicago has some cool shops unlike before where shops would start swaps, take for ever, and give up half way through.
Of course, I'm too poor to actually pay someone to work on my car, but its all good. |

Glad to see you are all so willing to be helpful with swaps, cuz imma need some hands come next year .
Of course anyone doing a swap I would also be willing to lend a hand, mainly just to get some first hand experience with swapping, plus I am pretty bored. Tim - anymore news on a date for the event, or is it still just sometime in October.

I think that if I went to a shop that it would be nice to go to one that has a rep for the proper car. GRD brings in the specialist for the wiring, and he sets the chip for top performance. This is coming from my buddy who has the product to show for it. He might come out with me on Sat. He has a wrx but is going to do a silvia for his nest project.
James-- are you up for the swap in the spring? and how is your project going? Duff--- Do you want to drive up Saturday together, what about uiuc??? Let me know? How is you turbo project going? |

I am also a west suburbian. There are quite a few of us out in the south 88 West of 355 region. If anyone does want to go together I will be going somewhat early, like 11:00 , I will try and be there early just cuz a few of the out of towners have my number and just incase they arrive early, don't want them to be sitting around and not knowing if they are in the right place. I live in Bolingbrook just to let you know.

Hmm I say we meet up a little south of that Jewel. Mainly cuz it'll be a bitch getting in and out of that place (well if there is more than a couple of us).
So I say meet up in front of the starbucks on Rt.53, its inbetween the Krispy Kreme and Cinmeark/IMAX theater. Its easier to get in and out of, plus easily viewable from road. So between Maple and 75th Street on Rt.53. For those who dont know where Maple is, its south of Ogden (Rt. 31 or is it 30). Try and get there by 11 (call me at 847 606-0844 if you can't find me) Just incase you don't know how to get there follow this: (anyone coming with I'll tell you again just incase we lose each other) Taking 88E to 294N, exit at Dempster East, Follow Dempster east, then flip off my old HS , then right on Waukegan, merge left to caldwell, turn left into Miami Woods. I'll call Eric tomorrow (uiuc240) and see if he is coming to the meet at all. EDIT: Its 90 cents in toll to get there (one 40 and one 50), and two 40s to get back.

I can be there, what time should we meet.
btw, is that 9000rpm tach installed in your car? If not bring it, since my other 240 should be revived from the dead in the next few weeks, and i could use it. Last edited by DuffMan; 09-17-2003 at 03:36 PM.. |
