KA24DE Torque specs (searched)
Ok I have searched and searched. All I am getting is mixed answers, I also looked in the FSM.
Some people are saying they stripped the cam sprockets bolts when torquing to factory specs or have even broken cams. This is what I have come up with. Cam Cap Bolts: Tighten: 1.4 (FOOT LBS) in sequence then to 8.7 (FOOT LBS) Cam Sprocket Bolts: 123-130 ......really thinking only to do 90 ( FOOT LBS ) Idler Sprocket Bolt: 40-60 FOOT LBS Others: Crank Pulley 150 FOOT LBS Chain Guides 17 FOOT LBS Chain Tensioners 7 FOOT LBS |

I think the Jim Wolf instructions for changing the cams also mirror the FSM specs.

Stripped cam bolts and breakage?
Just use the fsm. You will be fine... Also, use the correct metric 6pt socket with cam properly locked or secure in place. ~mario GR Performance

I used the fsm, everything went fine.
Its from the factory, they made 1000's of them like that, why wouldn't it work? For cam bolts i used a crescent wrench to hold it, put a towel under the wrench when it wedges against the head or it will make a small dent. it wont hurt anything, but it will bother you. for the crank pully i used the flywheel bolt wrench trick. |

Cam Sprockets:
Camshafts do break for many reasons. Typically, cracks may occur around the outside of the cam gear ridge. Cams are usually a victim of some sort of abuse from heat, poor lubrication, misuse or severe internal problems prior to cracking. I have never stripped the threads of a camshaft. Idler sprockets: Extreme care with proper thread engagement, lubrication and torque must be used when installing this piece. ~m grp

First post, but I just wanted to chip in that I stripped the idler gear bolt with 50 ft/lbs (needing a helicoil) and the same went for the cam gears at 85 ft/lbs.
My motor was used and severely abused, but not turbo. |

On cam caps u don't need the tourqe specs cause it 11inch pounds
I use 1/4 ratchet witg no issue in 10yrs And I use the oldskool tourqe wrench.. Less likely to strip cause u use tru force and watch a needle Not a new clicking type..u can strip shit out easy That's why I switched back to oldskool
