My '93 240sx's floor has been heating up when I'm driving since I bought the car about 1 1/2 months ago. The floor is heating up along the mufflers track. I've had my muffler check in 3 places and there seems to be no problem with either the catalytic converter (which I remove as a test) or silencer.

My mechanic told me that he thinks that the car is missing the originial heat shields that prevent this from happening. The only heat shield under my car is the one above the catalytic converter. Am I missing any heat shields? Since I live in Costa Rica I haven't been able to check out other 240s.

The motor itself is not heating up (unless my thermostat is busted) cause the needle points to just above 1/4 way.

Has anybody have this problem? Help will be GREATLY appreciated since I'm cooking in there &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

definitely missing heat shields. there's a bunch of em down there, but i can't remember how many or where they were. but the tech is right. they shouldn't cost much, but they may be a bitch to install.

They might be cheap everywhere else in the world but in my country. I haven't found out how much would they cost, but when I checked to see how much the right-front mudguard which I'm missing costed they told me $108 + %13 tax.

I think I'll probably go with my mechanics second solution and install fibre glass insulator under the floor mats, at least on the drivers side.

Thanks for the input.
