I read someone's post about removing the speed cut on an S14 a couple days ago and thought I would try it on my S13. It involved disconnecting the 5th gear sensor on the trans and cutting a yellow ECU wire with a green stripe and two silver dots every inch or so. On the S13 (at least mine) there is no such wire, but a yellow wire with a green stripe and a single silver band about every inch. There's actually two such wires, but only one goes into the ECU while the other bypasses it. I checked my Chilton's schematic and confirmed that this is still the speedo wire. I figured theres enough slack to splice it back together if it didn't work, so I went ahead and cut the one going into the ECU. Whoo-hoo, I took it out in the country and managed to wrap the speedo needle to the first odometer number! Although this proceedure is supposed to turn on the check engine light on the S14, mine has not come on. It flashes on startup, so I'm sure it works. I might put a switch in the kickpanel so I can turn it on or off if the light ever goes on. The 5th gear sensor is the same as the S14, its the rearmost one in the cluster of three small sensors on the right side of the tranny. Hope this helps somebody out there. BTW, my S13 is a '91 with the stock KA24DE and ECU. And of course, I'm not responsible if you screw up, get a ticket, blah blah blah, etc.
