Something in my Suspension is driving me crazy!!!

so something in my rear left suspension area is making this crazy clunk sound. almost like something is compressing, and getting stuck, then popping back out... distinctly different than diff noise, and only rear left. If you yank hard on the axle OR press down on the back of the car... when the car raises back up u hear this "clunk clunk" and/or creaking noise like an old door. When there is no weight on that wheel, u cant do anything to make the noise. It also makes the noise when ur driving, and u let off the gas to shift gears and the car shifts weight forward. It did it forever, but now its getting worse. Nobody can figure it out. All my arms are tight, nothing is loose, Ive checked and double checked. Here are my suspension mods:

- Cusco Zero2 coilovers
- Cusco front and rear strut bars
- Suspension Technique front and rear sway bars
- Dupree subframe spacers
- DGTrials traction arms
- Tein inner/outer tie rods
- Project Silvia RUCAs
- SPL toe arms
- SPL tc rods

good luck, cause Im stumped... please help!

Maybe your coilover is blown? Just a guess maybe you should have it checked out or rebuilt?

I have the same problem or at least very similar, whenever I change load on the drivetrain (ie: let the clutch out or push it in while moving) I get a clunk like something knocking back and forth.. I first noticed it after installing my RUCA's and subframe spacers the same day... I went up to SPL Parts and Kuah and Rich looked over the car and their analysis was slop in the VLSD... while I'm not sure that that's what it is, there's no other option besides a loose axle that I haven't checked yet.

my mods:

SPL KTS coilovers
Cusco Sways/RUCA/tension rod bar
SPL subframe spacers

One major thing you might want to check is the lower control arm. My car was clunking everytime I stopped because my tension rods were ready to come off the LCA.

thanx guys for things to look out for. yea, i either thought it was the RUCA about to break (happened to my friend with same Project Silvia ones) or something wrong with the axle. The shock doesnt seem to be blown at all. Its been doing this for a long time, it just got worse like the past week. Going up to MA in an hour to try and get it fixed.

I'll post up wut it was after we are done.

mine clunks on the rear passenger side. i think it might be my coilovers(d2). I tried tightening the top bolt but the bolt didnt really move. Can't be my ruca's because i just installed new adjustable ones.

ok here it goes fellas... sollution found.

Thanks to Brian and Ray from MA-motorsports.com for all their help. I went up to their shop in Towson, MD to try and figure it out (me and brian spent like 40min trying another day). The problem was u could feel the clunk in every arm equally. So this time, Ray gets under the car with a stethescope and listens to every single bolt and joint as we bounce it up and down for like 20 minutes. the verdict:

shitty ass craptacular heim joints in the Project Silvia RUCAs are getting stuck and are corroding (sp?). So these will need replacement. We greased them up more, but it berely helped. Also, I heard Project Silvia has no customer repore (ie. one of my other friends RUCAs broke and they basically told him tough luck), but Im gonna see if they will send me a replacement. Hopefully they arent whores.

Also, the DGTrials heim on the toe links were berely starting to stick too, a slight sound in comparison to the crazy clunk from the RUCAs, but I called my friend Matt Petty from DG who was heading up the production of these arms and he is replacing the heims for free, with a lifetime warranty. So atleast that one is done and done, and easy to deal with. I love good companies that care about customer satisfaction.

So... in conclusion, I hate these piece of crap RUCAs, but I dont wanna spend $300 on new ones, so... if Project Silvia wont replace the heims, Matt at DG will give me new heims for the RUCAs as well as the toe links. hope this helps anyone out with similar problems... get a stethescope. Thanks again to ma-motorsports.com ... awesome dudes.

are these for an s13 or s14?

a friend of mine is gonna be fabricating some adjustable RUCAs for me pretty soon, the first set he's gonna make will be for s13, but after that s14 RUCAs will come soon, and he won't be using crappy heim joints

Ebay sells crappy heim joints in bulk. Just buy a bag and swap. Cheaper than upgrading

S13.

also, Ray from MA says that the reason these suck and corrode is cause their made of shit, and most companies dont wanna use Cro-moly heims cause they cost like 5 times as much as the regular kind. Just a thought. Maybe I will buy a bag of heims for cheap, something to consider.

Lol crappy rod ends...I hate those things. Just so the rest of you know, this is where those ruca's and TC rods and all that other stuff you see on ebay get to be so cheap. They save money on the heim joint/rod end. High quality rod ends cost decent money, but the savings are measured in alignments.
