S14 rear subframe question
So yesterday my car started rattling at low rpms and it drove me crazy. I found the culprit, it is a metal square in my rear subframe right next to the ball joint. It was connected on both sides by rubber through the center of it and I was wondering how important it is. I can't upload pics for some reason and It's hard to explain but if someone could tell me what this is it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing you meant to say subframe stud instead of subframe ball joint. That chunk of rubber is called a damper assy. It is installed on all the manual transmission models. Have you tried tightening down the installation hardware? You can always just remove it. All the auto transmission and auto-to-manual transmission swap cars do just fine without it.
