Interesting. Thanks. So I'm guessing there's no English name for that language then huh? One of my friends thinks it's Fukienese but isn't Fukienese spoken more so in Taiwan? I know that some of the words are similar to Taiwanese.

Haha, funny how the English name is just as you would call the language using the language, Teochew. Very interesting article especially with the phonology at the bottom. I wish there are more young people who can speak Teochew. I can only use it with my mom and her friends/relatives.

When I was a lot younger, I thought I was one of the very few who knew how to speak this language. But as I grew up in Canada, I met so many people who were able to speak with me, although their accent sounded very western. Even on my trip to California, I heard so many people speaking it.

Just curious, is there anyone who can speak Chinese but isn't Chinese? I know there are quite a few white people in my Chinese classes at school. There's even a white teacher who teaches classical Chinese....in Chinese! So yeah, props out to them. I know it's hard enough learning Chinese when you are Chinese.

i only speak english and alittle chew-chow (i guess thats what happens when u grow up with mexicans)
Can any chew-chow ppl in here verify this story that i heard growing up. (( chew-chow ppl were a clan in china. they made up their own language (chew-chow-nese) and went to hiding from the chinese goverment to avoid execution. thats why when they see one another, they would greet eachother by brother or sister. )) ???
