different tire widths?

I have a 225/45/17 and a 205/45/17. If I were to mount these tires on either side of my rear wheels, what would happen? negligible performance loss? Unsafe??

is it for a rwd car?
fwd?
awd?

if you just have to do it to a 2 wheel powered car just to do burnouts or for temporary emergency purposes then go ahead.
tires will wear out unevenly and your traction will be messed up.

do not do it on a 4wd car.

you'll sit lop-sided, and your car will pull to the side with the 205 cruising and pull one way then the other during accel/decel.
it's not really unsafe... think of it like you're running a donut, just bigger.

PO of my 240 had a 235 on one side and the rest of the tires were 185 so it would pull to the right and when I would step on the brakes it would pull to the right. I really don't understand why he did this

Do you have a 1.5 way, 2 way or VLSD on your car? if so you can ruin it quicker by causing uneven loads & wear on either side of the clutches depending on your diff.
