Gauge cluster issues after 5spd swap 240sx

Hey guys,

Alright, here's what is going on.. I just picked up a '93 coupe, it was gorgeous, snagged it for $1250. Only problem was the automatic transmission. So I pulled it out and converted the car to 5spd. I've done this swap a few times before and never had an issue. I do now.

The car starts, runs, and drives fine. No hesitation, no apparent loss of power, and alll the lights work - backup, brake, running and headlights. Runs great. My issue is with the passenger compartment electronics. The gauge cluster won't light up, tach / speedo won't work, clock won't work, headlight control switch won't lower the headlight motors, and the dome light isn't coming on.

What the hell is going on? I used the transmission from a '90 car, and I was lucky because it came equipped with the factory transmission / alternator / starter harness. Everything seems to be plugged in just fine, but maybe the '91 + transmission harness is different in some way?

Please let me know your thoughts, I have got to get this car down for a smog / safety inspection ASAP and it won't pass visual without a working multimeter. Please help!

i remember when i did my swap on my 91 s13, i didn't have the dohc lower harness, but i had a sohc tranny/lower harness complete but the plugs are different or were on this one compared to mine, but i heard you didn't need it, so i'm not running a lower harness at all, just the speed sensors plugged in, so far i haven't really or dont' recall on any problems, if anything my only problem would be not having reverse lights

ok , you have short somewhere. my guess is the sohc trans harness your trying to use is connected incorrectly to your sensors. Fact is, like I wrote in my auto to 5 speed swap faq, the only sensors that need to be connected on the S13 are the speed sensor and wire up the reverse light sensor. the center plug in the harness connectors that were used for your auto harness has the two wires that are the reverse lights. Its in my FAQ in more detailed form. Use the search button.
