ooh yeah thats not lifters....thats something bad
did you drive your car really hard or starve it of oil before this happened? burnouts racing? um...yeah i cant give much more advice, sounds like the motor might be going out, could be the valves or inside the block? im not pro. i would take it to a mechanic

well i dont know what to tell you, how long ago did you buy the car?
and yes the 4 missing bolts will contribute to the car sounding like shit. but if there are 4 missing i would be more concerned that everything else might be half assed on the car... if thats how you bought it

Totally sounds like an exhaust leak I had.
Depending on the material the gasket is made of, the exhaust pressure could've blown a small piece of the gasket off since it wasn't being held tightly between the head and the manifold. |

does it go away after its been running for awhile? i have a leak in my exhaust mani too, but its no where near as bad as that.
its most likely an exhaust leak tho if u have 4 bolts missing haha they're there for a reason best way to tell is by using a smoke machine tho. if u know anyone with one, or a shop or something (maybe ur local school with an auto department) id recommend that. however if u cant do that, take a rubber hose, and use it like a stethoscope. put one side up to the exhaust mani and the other side up to ur ear. move it around and u should be able to find a leak using that method as well. all in all, get some new bolts for it lol |

its most likely an exhaust leak, and the gasket is probably shot...
and make sure you do fix the engine light

-edit-
Deleted a somewhat condescending approach to explain why missing bolts can cause the leak. It looks Hartig already nailed it on the head.

well if you only need 4, and that will solve the problem with quality brand new never used bolts.
sometimes its worth coughing up 12 bucks... ive spend 50 bucks on stuff a few times and got nothing out of it. i spent 200 on something and got screwed i spent 400 and ..... so on and so on. 12 bucks is like a penny to me now adays.... not because im rich, because when it comes to my car and doing it right. you always end up spending more in the long run if you cheap out on certain things. but in this case it would just be time you would be losing, and if you have time then keep searching for bolts that are cheap
