S14 gas light turned on, but I have a full tank...

I swear in the 3 years I've owned this car, I've NEVER seen the gas light.

It decided to turn on today, but I have 7/8ths of a tank. It kinda flickers off and on so I fear it is a very intermittent electrical problem...

I'm currently at work, so the point of my post is...

Does anyone know what I can look at before I dive into this?

Side note: My car was continuously blowing the 10a fuse for the "Taillight" circuit on my car. I replaced the fuse with a 30a and it's working but I know that's probably not the best answer... lol

when troubleshooting i use a fuse one size bigger or smaller you want the fuse to blow if not wires melt and fires can start.

remove the pump cover and look for loose wires, i forget which wire is for the gauge on an s13 but if you find a loose broke or otherwise obvious damaged wire repair it. The problem may also be in between the cluster and pump assembly. Troubleshoot!

your float could also be stuck

Sounds like a loose wiring issue. My 97 doesn't have a gas light that illuminates even below E. Guess mines fucked up too.

Upon surfing the internets, it would appear a non working gas light actually indicates your gas system is operational.

I think I'm just going to remove the bulb.

I'd check out the connector at the top of the tank first. The light is triggered by the float, which obviously shouldn't be the reason it's on. Check for chaffed or frayed wiring. On the body side of the harness as far as you can. Save diving into the tank for the last resort.

If anyone was wondering what happened with this...

Turns out I shorted the wires going to the license plate illumination.

It burned off a lot of the insulation to the rear of the car and probably would've caught the car cover in my trunk on fire if I hadn't inspected it further.

You have to be really out of gas for it to come on. Like 16.8 gallons through the tank. Mine comes on after about 475 miles on the highway.
