honda ruckus?
anybody have one? i've never really liked scooters but this thing barely looks like a fruity vespa or anything. i'm selling my acura as soon as i get the 240 going again (read: weeks), and i think it might be nice to pick one of these up as well to save on gas (something like 90mpg!). 49cc, so i wouldn't have to get insurance for it or even register it. apparently they can get up and over ~45mph without much struggle, so it'd be fine for all non-highway roads around here... and a brand new one is just over $2k. it'd be useless from like november-march, save the occasional nice day, of course..
might be nice to dick with a bit, too, frame extension and who knows what. but yeah, anybody have one?

I thought this thread was going to be about some Honda bitching and fighting.
That thing looks fucking dope though. I'd rock that scooter for sure. 90 to a gallon! I WANT! My work's like 20 miles away too. It'd take not even two gallons/week on that scooter compared to over 6 gallons of 93/week in my S14. OH YEAHHHHHHHHH!

Yoshi pipe!
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aosm9LZlEV4&feature=related[/ame] I'm seriously considering getting one of these. It'd pay itself off. Plus, I can go around bashing cars when they enter my territory...I mean.

I have one of those.
I am getting a 100 mpg on the ~20mile commute to work with hills both ways. Just ordered some upgrades to bump up the rev lim to 10500 instead of 8500. I top out at about 45 on flats with no head wind. Holds about 35 going up some pretty steep hills. |

Theres quite a scene emerging around the Ruckus:
I like them! If I was in the U.S Id rock one. Unfortunately, over here, 'scooters' have a serious stigma attached. Basically only riden by 16y/o yoot scum

There was a thread on this little scooters not to long ago. The ruckus is definitely a heavy favorite for me. I'm considering a used one to toy with.

I'd rock it, but its completely useless from where I am.
Everything around me is hills and fucking freeway. If I lived in a smaller community, I'd rock it fershure.

I don't know about CA, but I know that is how it works in NC.
Until Gas prices started skyrocketing, the only people on scooters were DUI offenders.

Nothing against a ruckus but if you can, just get you a S, 2 strokes are way better then a 4 stroke in terms of mopeds or scooters performance. And there is a ton of more after market support.
This was my set up that I built myself back in 04, -2001 Honda Elite S -Taiwan dual headset -Stanley JDM flush tail light -72cc Malossi Bore, slightly polished exhaust port -43.4 FM ministroker crank -SEF Magic pipe -Ct chrome intake -28mm OKO carburator -Uni foam filter -Keli pulley, 36grams weight -Stock clutch w/ 1500rpm center spring & 3000rpm clutch springs -1987 honda elite clutch bell -6:8 gearing Nothing special, just something that was simple and reiable. It came out to a little under 76cc's but I could get it into low 70's mph w/ my weight @ 195lbs. It's something really fun to ride and easy to work on once you understand the tuning aspect involved. ^ problem with that thing is it looks gay. the ruckus or similar scooters look gritty and pretty sweet looking when done up.

I say just break down and get a bike. i almost run over scooters all the time because they can't keep up with the speed limits (45) and the hill around me they constantly drive 10-15 below the limit and swerve in and out of lanes as they build up and loose speed. I just got a ninja 250 myself, and i don't have to look limp wristed while cruising around on it. check on your state requirements too.
pick up your local motorcycle state handbook and read the part on mopeds, don't believe internet rumors. Oregon: a moped must be under 50cc and cannot propel the rider more than 30MPH on level ground. you also have to get a motorcycle liscence to ride one here and are held accountable as much as a motorcycle is for breaking any rules of the road. |

Dang, didn't think it was that bad to look at, but thats cool. Everyone has their own opinions of things but afterall its just a scooter so I don't have high expectations regarding looks. |

So, I'm REALLY thinking about getting one.
The speed limit to my work is 45 all the way on a one lane road with a healthy shoulder. All driving would be done during light times. Do you guys think the Ruckus would be safe? The Ruckus tops out at 45 from what I've read.

that's nice. still looks gay to me. same stigma that the miata has and I like those.
not gay gay I've seen some really nice scooters built in Japan, but they're "meh" in my book.

Not to step on your toes DreamN, but this post isn't whether you think my bike is gay, it really has nothing to do with what you been posting on this thread. BustedS13 asked if anyone has ever owned a ruckus. I personally have never owned a ruckus but have been modifying mopeds "2 stroke honda's" for the last 5-1/2 years, and was simply offering him advice on a possible alternative route to take. So if you can't contribute any useful information to this subject, please keep your opinion of my bike to a minimum. Thank you
