S13 Drift Build

Hey everyone, I am Shane Vasquez, Owner of Texas Coatings. Quick past started racing back in 02-03 and was into drifting back then but just messing around nothing serious. (Not much was serious back then in drifting compared to now.) Since San Antonio is a big drag racing city I have been doing that for a few years. In 2010 I opened a performance shop which evolved into a powder coating shop. Well started getting back into drifting again like last year, and had an FC that i was going to build but do not have funds for a 20b build right now. So picked up this S13. Have had it for a month so decided I will get the build thread going.

Yanked seats out

Bye bye pick and green rear end. lol

Fixed the body damage on the door real fast. going wide body so not fixing the rear 1/4's.

Went "I LOVE GOLD" Going to Powder coat once the new shop is open.

- - - Updated - - -

We established that you have to use bolt cutters when cutting Nissan wiring. Think I figure out why his car is having electrical issues. lol j/k

Starting to slowly get some parts powder coated.

Preping the car for stitch welds. gatta get all that sealent off.. that crap stinks when it burns. It catches on fire too.

Got a cusco cage, but think I am going to sell it soon. I got it in a trade for some powder coating work, but I am going to go weld in.

Chop Chop

Built a center piece for gauges. I am going to move the radio up to where the ac was. Yes I need a radio while drifting. On a side know I produce electronic music, and am an Audio Engineer. lol

Was goign to be painting the car Bayside blue with green pearl... BUt then I saw this color...

Last sunday I went to drop off the RX7 to a guy that bought it in austin. Bye Bye buddy.

O and I also forgot to mention.... I am the King.

I would be further if I did not have customers parts to powder and ceramic coat. lol

Motor I picked up sunday after car was dropped off. It is a s14 KA. going to end up going fully built KA-T. Then probably next year might go v8 turbo, but really think I am going to do BMW V12 Twin Turbo.

Who needs a ignition coil anyway?? not sure how the car was running when the motor was pulled. lol

Going to have some wiring to do...

Pre plasti-dip and after,

Here are some updates from the 21st. The paint came out a darker blue then I wanted, so when I pull the motor back out in 2 months to rebuild it going to repaint it then. I still need to pick up some metal this week to finish off the tubing next week. I just wanted to get the fire wall painted so I could get the engine in.

I shot the clear coat the other night. Here are some pics. No sun to take the pic since then... It is storming.

Note these post are playing catch up since it took so long to get my thread approved.

Well got some work in on the 25th even though it was raining. 30 min motor install.

Ended up not having to go into work tomorrow.

This is just a temp wire tuck. When I pull the motor to build it going to buy new nice fancy loom and probably new plugs. Which does anyone have a good website that sells new plugs?

Also got my 255 installed

Had to use all red wiring. blah sucks but gatta do what you gatta do. lol

car coming back together. On side note actually trading the driver finder for some 40 mm wide fenders to the guy I got the shell from. He wants stock ones and needs the good fender I have. LOL

Well tonight I was able to get the car powered up. not sure why but fuel pump is not kicking on. might have spliced into wrong wire in the bundle. need to do a continuity test tomorrow. Also realized that I did not wire the main power line to starter. lol

Well I was trying to make round 3 this weekend in Texas buuuutt ran out of money. lol The bad part of build cars. But did get some new things! Issue I am having though is with fuel. fuel pressure reg is not dumping the extra fuel so the line keeps gushing fuel everywhere... not good.
Also getting a Carbon Fiber GT wing next week in a trade. Also trading my cusco cage for $300 plus 4" exhaust for my turbo build.

Well got a little bit more work done. I got the rear S14 diff welded up to fit my S13, and I finished welding the rear diff.

I got the car to crank over, but Think I am going to need a new battery. Even with jumper cables it does not hardly want to crank.

Looks almost as haggard as mine when I got it, hahah. Hopefully you can take it to another level.

I really hope you DON'T paint it that ridiculous yellow, but hey, it's your car.

LoL Well it will have graphics on it. Have to have my shop name across it and then name and hopefully next year pro am sticks and hopefully a few sponsors. lol

I am hoping to get the rear end on the ground sometime today. maybe. lol Will post pics how it sits if I do. My si decided to give up on me yesterday when on the way to finish installing a clutch into a z32 TT... not sure what it is. Might be fuel pump. it is just strange I had plenty of fuel pressure on the line, but injectors not spraying.

Well I finally got the car on the ground last night. First time since I got the car. I tried to see about getting it started yesterday, but no luck. I am not getting spark, and my dash lights when i turn kep off they stay on. The guy I got the car from his new shell was doing the same thing and turned out to be EFI harness. so trying to find a new engine harness. at local junk yard it is $30 for the harness, just have to find one still there. lol

I still need to work on getting the suspension right. Might try today, but IDK. :/

Getting work done today! Found another wire that melted itself to the other. Cutting harness all open so I can remove all the unused wires.

OK changing up the motor build a little bit. I want to have a KA that is reliable at 9000 RPM so having to use a different block and crank.

running 90mm pistons with set 9.5:1 compression (-2.8 cc) haveing a 34mm piston compression heights, after head is milled, running an 86mm crank (L20b) in a Z24 block with a deck height of 247.45, i can use a 170mm rod, as long as the head still has its 56cc compression chamber(like it should) I will still have a .44mm piston to deck height (Stock being .45) with a 1.98:1 rod ratio and will be 9.8:1 compression. Now I have been looking for numbers on the 10.5 but pretty sure running a 10.5:1 pistons I will be just under 11:1.

Building it like this I will have a crank with a LOT less vibration in it. Should have no issues at all reving up to 9000 and will be a 2.2 liter. Just have to find out about timing chain and pump.

In a nut shell will be de-strokeing the engine and using a fully balanced crank. It will also get my rod ratio way up there.

ok a little update on what is going on. So I have the engine back out of the car and up for sale. Found a killer deal on a LS400 that I am getting and pulling all the stuff I need out of it to do a 1uzfe Turbo Swap into the car. Will be using a G35 6 speed trans in it. Here are some body work and primer pics.
