I think it's more of a high beltline and roofline issue. Which is not what I wanted to see.

didnt it say in that article that it was a test chassis...a modified forrester or something (im not good with subarus model lineup names)
so that high roofline is prolly just an issue on the test mule...remember the G35 GTR pics??? |

They shoulda did a chop-top for the test mule. The higher mass really has an effect on performance.

they may just be testing suspension configurations or a motor set...instead of the performance of the car i think with toyota building the car...we shouldnt need to worry about performance...when they build a car to perform...it performs (at least thats how they did it in the past with the supra/soarer and the arristo) |

But I'm sure it'll be a good preformer. Especially at the weight they are shooting for.

I think the last MR2 is underrated, its midship and weighing in at just over 2,000lbs...its like the poor man's Elise. With a 2zz swap it'd make for a great platform. I've never seen a well built one in on this side of the globe though. Its just 'cause it didn't live up to the previous generations...

dont count on the car looking anything like a legacy...that concept sketch is prolly the way itll turn out (the subbie version at least) i get the feeling the car is going to wind up looking very low slung for subbie...and very "scion-ish" for toyota |

I agree. But like DorkiDori said above, it's not going to look anything like a Legacy. However unfortunate that is.

The windshield is cut off and it's bare bones. When you see this thing turn like Tron on the track you are in awe. He built the car JUST to try and beat this guy with a 240Z that wins every year. Last I heard he had still be unsuccessful.

If want a good taste of what Nissan is thinking. They have now added a concepts page to their website. Two cars that come up on it look like they are headed to production. One is a Sport coupe that is basically a Two door Versa that looks pretty bad ass. The other is the Urge. The fact they are pushing it on their official website leads me to believe there is a strong push to put the Urge or whatever the concept winds up being named pushed into production.
I should add most of the other concepts look production worthy as well. I do find it interesting though that they now have a official concepts page. They are definitely getting ready to drop some new cars .

the urge is again another design study that was meant to put a HEAVY youth oriented image into a small RWD sports coupe...the new silvia will more than likely resemble this car a bit (the urge was built around the FM platform)...but somehow i dont think nissan is going to give customers the whole "xbox mounted in the dash" as a factor option thing that was shown on the concept when it was released |

Anyway what I see is a ar with very simple tasteful lines, wide fenders, and traditional coupe proportions. All with undertones of barebonesedness. I think thats what the hole sin the doors represent.

Compared to this \/ not so hot.
EDIT I'd rather have a Toyota being a Toyota than a Toyota being a Porsche.

exactly, it's like the poor mans, cheap knock-off porsche. in fact, it reminds me of the enzo replica built on the fiero chassis.
I like the philosophy of the urge(bare-bones and lightweight), but I really don't care for the looks of it. The long wheelbase / short overhangs are good, but the overall arc of the belt-line is awkward, as is the roofline.

They are calling it at 2600lbs. Again, though, these are just renderings from a Japanese magazine.
