I need help. my sr20det is making a knocking noise. i believe its a cam but not sure and its not a valve o sumen cuz havent lost power so wtf need to dyno it and wana fix but gta fix dis first.

Cams generally tick (valve tick). Knocking is usually in the block.

If the block is knocking, don't answer it. It's almost always bad news bears.

if the knocking gets louder and faster as RPMs increase then you spun a rod bearing

Mine developed a minor ticking after accidentally running the timing too far advanced. How to fix this?

I have same problem too. It turns out that while I started using synthetic oil. a knock occurred due to lite engine oil. The Sr was used to conventional oil. Back in 1991 the sr20 was designed for conventional. Ester oil or motul may leave a protective film but is too thin for your journal clearance. Reason why we take synthetic oil is cause it runs great on our turbo and it cools better. Unless you have the new 370z or maxima its official due to tighter clearances. Also by doing so you cannot revert back to conventional cause it your knock will worsened

Did you fix the timing already? You sure its not rod knock? If its a rod knock, it should be faint at idle. When you slowly rev the engine, you will hear when it hits its "sweet spot." Usually around 3k-3.5k.

Yup.

Pretty sure. Sounds like it's coming from the head. It doesn't really increase in volume at faster RPMs, it just occurs faster (obviously). Reminds me of a ticking lifter that I had in my Eclipse. Running higher viscosity oil lessens the noise. Valve is what I'm suspecting, but I'm intimidated by the head.

Wen I warm it up dsnt hapen wen da cars warm it starts. Da higher da rpm da louder it is I let go of gas and it goes away and at idle u barely hear it. And yes I changd da oil and it startd da noise im thnking of changing all cams and timing belt but not sure if dats it. Also ive herd its da cmt cam o sumen like dat?

The KA24E has hydraulic tappets, so I suppose the Twin Cam version may too? I'm not sure.

Dual cam Ka's don't have lifters.

KA head design is better than the SR head design. Hydraulic lifters just suck plain and simple. Took Nissan almost 10 yrs to figure it out and finally got rid of the hydraulic lifters out of the SR20 Neos.

Back to the OP, do you have an oil pressure gauge? I'm just curious what your oil pressure is at, when it starts ticking. I'm pop the valve cover off and see if its still got the chain protector crap, chain could be loosing tension and slapping on that thing. Also, what oil do you use and weight.

Lastly, stop typing like retard in here...fastest way to kill folks motivation in helping you out is by typing like a 5th grader.
