rb26dett vs 2jz in s13 coupe
Hi Ive seen both of these engines in all kinds of 240s. Im wondering which swap is best. Im pushing towards the rb26 right now. im looking at all the ups an down of these swaps, like price, installation, specs of the engines an all that stuff. anything will help, an please no negetivity

As adamant as I am of putting a Nissan engine in an s-chassis, the 2jz seems to be much easier. And unless you plan a full, all-out build, it will make more power for less money.

I do have some good plans coming up for this car, I want an everyday driver, thats really fun to drive, and I want to be able to take it to the track for the drifting an time attack races I do. There only reason why I wouldn want to but an rb25 is because Ive always wanted a twin turbo car an because Ive driven a 240 with an rb26 an another one with a rb25. an to be honest the rb26 was way better in my opinion, but still a very good engine. An as for the 2jz, I havent driven a car with one in it but i went for a ride along in an is300 with the twin turbo 2jz swap an that ride pretty amazing. I like both of these engines its jus looking for one in the long run with be cheaper, funner and easy to up an find parts.

Hell no. The 6-speed is an amazing transmission. You'd probably want to go with the R154 transmission though. It's cheaper and pretty stout. Not as stout as the 6 speed but it's been known to handle heavy Supras with 700-800 HP. Besides, most 2JZ swaps kits and stuff like that are made in mind with using the R154.

I would definitely go with the 2jz over a 26. again, parts are easier to come by and cheaper from what ive seen. when my rb25 died from an oil pump failure from nissan's failed attemp at an oil pump drive on the crank (another reason to go jz over rb), i was seriously considering going 2j and selling off my entire swap. i would kill to have a 2jz with usdm twins and standard mods (fmic, exhaust, upped boost). almost 400whp with no lag; thats really all you would need for autox/drift.

Wow, good luck with that... how much you spend on the motor if you dont mind me asking.. I already spoke with a shop having a bitch of a time mounting a tranny to it. Good luck. unique as fuck but risky as hell.

17? and you want a rb26 or 2jz, both go for over id say 5-6k+, will you be swapping yourself? wiring etc..., cheapest power is ls1 gl guy

My LS1 comment was actually quite serious. If you look at it like this all the other engines discussed here are quite illegal for our cars. The LS1 actually gives HP numbers stock that are perfect for our cars. On top of that they can be totally legal done right and they get pretty damn decent gas mileage for a V8 as well.
I am on the VQ tip myself for two distinct reasons. Of all the engine setups for our cars only 2 stand a chance in hell to be legal for our cars. LS1 and VQ35. Of these two the VQ setup is the lighter setup coming out and the exact same engine and trans weight setup as stock. Which means the car stays properly balanced. This is my reasoning for running a VQ over a LS if I was not so hung up on this I would have already started moving down the road of an LS swap. Oh and I ran a RB25 in a S13. As well as having SR powered S13's too.

Jus cause im 17 deosn mean i cant afford either. I have almos 7k saved up, an im jus trying to do research on these engines. An I dont want an ls series engine because my older brother lets me borrow his 70 chevelle, an I jus dont want a v8
|

In the end you'll do whatever you want, But im sure if you dont have the seat time you're 1: gunna kill yourself (Which I pray you dont, I hate seeing people die in cars) or 2: all that money is going to be a waste cuz you'll prolly kill your car.. Be reasonable with your decision, I've had my Z33 for 3 years and left the motor stock, I've had a z06 engine sitting in the garage for a year. I'm prolly going to swap THAT into a S13 and leave my Z be.. Hope I shed some light on some things for you, and that I might have been just a little helpful in your decision. ~Dustin edit: Oh, to add, The fastest car In Japan for some years WAS (not sure if it still is) a twin turbo c5 z06, just some food for thought on what the JDM's are doing. Not to mention a shop Apartment 9 Just dropped a built LS7 into a s13 chassis.. So about keeping it JDM... Your the only one, hhahaa the JDM's are keepin it USDM... |

I would say of the two you listed do a 2JZGTE.
I have friends with RB25/RB26 swapped cars and they are alot of fun. But when and that is a WHEN not IF stuff breaks waiting days/weeks/months to find a replacement part sucks. Most if not all RB guy's i know have a stock pile of hard to find parts just incase something happens. Where as a 2JZGTE you can get parts from Autozone/Advanced/Napa/etc oh not to mention a TOYOTA dealership. The swap isn't that hard at this point in time it is just MONEY all the hard work has been done by the founding swappers and have been put online. either motor is a GOOD choice but 2JZ > 1JZ > RB26 > RB25
