I have ACT heavy duty pressure plate and a full face sprung clutch on the KA right now with a Fidanza flywheel. No issues whatsoever, and grips decent without feeling like you're breaking stuff.

Anyone ever ran an ORC single plate? Considering picking one up but I have no idea how "streetable" they are. Is it like an on/off switch or just a little more grabby than normal? It's still a full face friction disc, but I just don't know.

I back ACT. I have a 6-puck unsprung HD pressure plate on my track car and I love it. Solid response, pedal feels great, etc. I also have cryo-treated transmission gears to take the shock abuse of clutch kicks. However, I would probably hate it on a street driven car because it is unsprung.

Fuck Exedy. They have nice clutches, but if you are an unlucky one to get a flawed product, Exedy will do everything they can to fuck you out of a warrantied replacement. I've had horrible experiences with the customer relations aspect of their company. They sit on a high pedestal and only pay attention to you when you're waving cash in their face.

Stock sr setups I run jgy flywheel with exedy stage 2 3 puck. Holds up great to everyday driving with few drift events here n there.

I have an ACT 6puck unsprung on mine that I DD.. I just rebuilt my motor top to bottom though.. I was running it on my old setup, KA-T gt3076, built block, AEM EMS, was pushing 485hp, and it was fine.. Little bit of chatter when you take off, but you get used to it.. it was in that setup for over 3 years..

I used ACT unsprung 4 puck with an XD pressure plate on my Z31 with resurfaced stock flywheel. It's an on off switch. LOVED it. Pedal effort wasn't too hard. pedal only needed to move the first inch or two for full disengagement. Drove it everywhere locally, road trips, drift events.

Buddy has ACT 6 puck sprung hub with the HD pressure plate. Very streetable and still grabs hard.

Both Z31's had solid motor/trans mounts.

I'm bummed that ACT doesn't have anything for the 3.8 Genesis. I'll have to choose between SPEC and Competition Clutch when it's time to upgrade.

I have a spec stage 3 and I am very happy with it. You just have to make sure that you break them in. It held perfect on my 400whp sr.

I am running a spec stg3+ in my 91 gtr along with a steel spec lw f/w. First off BUY AN OEM THROW OUT BEARING NO MATTER WHAT BRAND CLUTCH YOU USE. my spec t/o bearing is making noise after about 2500 kms, second I broke the clutch in for 1000kms then at 1500kms blew a rod so it all came apart and there were heat spots and "material" all over the inside of my bellhousing. Granted I SHOULD have be running a twin or triple setup at the power levels I was at (around 550 hp 490ish tq) I was still under what the clutch was rated for. The disc itself still had alot of meat left on it so I cleaned it up and put it back in with my r33 setup. It has been downtuned to about 350-400 hp and no issues for the last 6 months. I do however wish the pedal were a bit firmer. Next time around I will not be using spec.

By who ? Ze germans ?

I have absolutely no link with spec, but as far as i can say one of the most powerful CA18DET in France (if not the most powerful) has been running the same stage 3+ clutch for a few years a now. It has been through 2+ bar boost, drag races, track days, drifts. It owner killed at least 2 engines and gearboxes (even killed a Z32 one), but never killed the clutch. It was north of 500HP, granted with a laggy turbo. Then it saw 1.8bar for months with a gtx2867r, getting quite a lot of boost at 2000rpm, and launching hard -only made 430HP, so getting back to an even bigger turbo, twin scroll this time, and aiming for the 600hp mark.

And still with the same clutch. If i had to recommend one, i'd go with that one - although the stage 3 would be enough for me, and will probably be my next clutch.

I totally not recommend XTD clutches though. I got a stage 3 one, with the light flywheel. Pedal feel is very light and easy, but it eats through the flywheel and does not look like it will even reach 15.000km (approx 10.000 miles).

Clutchmasters fx500 w/ resurfaced OEM flywheel. 6 puck solid hub. Daily driven KA-T so far at 16psi ( power wise 300-350?) its holding strong with no chatter and no slip. Bumping it up to 20psi, drop in cams and methanol shooting for around 450whp. Will see how it holds up. Got it on ebay for 280 shipped. Brand new. Super streetable I love it

I'm really in a bind on what clutch I'd like to get. On eBay, the clutchmasters fx500's are cheaper than the lower stages (O.o) like more than $100 cheaper. I've got a pretty much stock s14 w/ ka. I MIGHT eventually slap a t28 on it but not any time soon. Car is daily driven and will be drifted. I'm very particular when it comes to clutches and feel. Chatter doesn't bother me. Stiffness isn't a huge deal, but I'm not trying to pull a hamstring every time I drive around town, although I do like a bit stiffer pedal feel. What I want in a clutch (what I care about) is that it grabs. HARD. I like the way pucked clutches grab, having at one time had a 6-puck clutch masters stage 3 sprung on my s13 w/ ka (nice stiff pedal feel, but not too stiff, and amazing grab). And when I went SR I had the RPS Max 6-puck, not as stiff a pedal as with the CM, but great grab.

So my question is, do I get the cheapo f1 stage 3 or 4 since I'm not looking at making enough power to really negate having a stage 5 unsprung, or do I say f**k it, and get the quality clutch for $100 or so more and just deal with whatever chatter and stiffness may come with it?

All those Ebay clutches are junk (F1, Gripforce, XTD, XTR, etc.). They are made to look like performance clutches to fool people into buying them. Some of them come with remanufactured OEM-replacement pressure plates from other brands just spraypainted a different colour.
I would not trust anything other than Exedy, possibly ACT, or overpriced high-end stuff from Japan.
Mainly because I am really paranoid about clutches/flywheels shattering and cutting off my legs.

Worst thing other than clutch/flywheel shattering is PAIN in the ass for replacement compare to other labor you do on the car.

Do you pay for labor, or can you change the clutch yourself ? If changing the clutch often is not a problem, then you could go with an ebay clutch.

If it bothers you or you pay someone to do it, then it will be cheaper to get a good one from the start.

also, there is a break in period with clutch. From 500 to 1000 miles. That in itself sucks when you spend 10% of the clutch life breaking it in.

I had both competition clutch stage 3 sprung and xtd stage 4 unsprung clutch and honestly the xtd feels and performs better than the competition ...I mean if your on a budget and need a cheap fix, for 140$ you can't beat it ....its been going strong on my ka-t with 260wtq for a little over a year and a half 0 issues and I drive the car real hard also , but if I was going to spent the money for a legit one I would definitely go wth act..I'm on a budget and this isn't a race car or drift car so I can burn 3 xtd's for the price of 1 act plus I wouldn't run any cheapo brand if I had anything more than 300wtq it gets too risky..

Ill never touch a eBay clutch
I love love love ACT
And I think competition clutches are great.
I'm my S14 I'm running a act 14lbs flywheel. W/ cc 6puck clutch.
It's great to drive vary stiff clutch peddle

And the sti has act clutch and flywheel all from act. I honestly like the full act set up vs act cc set up.

I'm not a fan of Exedy..
Put a 4 puc in a customer car. And did not like it at all.

Currently using an Exedy 3 puck. It's not bad but next time around I think I might try something with more pucks or even full faced. I'm thinking ACT or Southbend.

Centerforce Duel Friction on LS1 lots of grip but needs a good break in. pedal gets softer after ~500 mile but still grip hard. t56 slave cylinder is super bitchy on its fluid so get an extender bleeder to save ur time and money.

on the KA got ACT stg1 and its fine.
