SPOILERS
I don't think all of these are necessarily plot holes but the four things that really stood out for me: 1. How Blake knows Bruce is batman. REALLY weak explanation. 2. How Bruce gets back to Gotham so fast after climbing out of the prison. 3. How Bane finds Wayne Corp's secret armory. Zero explanation at all. Especially after Fox made it very explicit the division was off the books so Dagget wouldn't be able to get at them when he tried to take over Wayne Corp. 4. Why did Talia till the last minute to flood the reactor? She had months to flood it if she was gonna blow the bomb no matter what. EDIT One more thing, I love how the bat plane is just chillin on the roof of some building for months and nobody finds it. |

Spoiler alert...
1. Well yeah, the movie didn't explain that part very well but this is typical Christopher Nolan storytelling, leaving it up to interpretation. Blake has a great detective mind and puts things together, thus knowing where Gordon would end up from the sewer, figuring out that the 'police training exercise' was a trap, etc. He actually doesn't know for sure that Bruce is Batman in their first scene, but as an orphan himself, he can relate to Bruce and has done so ever since he was a child. He knows of 'putting on masks' and assumes that Bruce is also putting on a mask to face the world. Bruce neither confirms or denies Blake's allegations, leading him to believe that he is the Batman. 2. The bomb is set to explode 5 months after Bruce is in Prison. If we assume that the events taking place in the prison actually coincide with the ones in Gotham then there is about a month of time where Bruce can escape the pit. He stops watching when he sees the three special force officers being hanged, and at that time there was 23 days left or so. If he escaped, in relation to the Gotham city events, then he would have had around 5 days to return to Gotham City. Bruce Wayne is a powerful man who was born high up on the social ladder. He has millions of resources at his disposal. I think what most people assume is that he escaped prison with a couple days at most left to return to Gotham. Even so, he returns with about 12 hours or so left before the bomb is going to explode. If you have the resources, traveling the world doesn't take months. 3. The whole plan of cleansing Gotham in Ra's Al Ghuls' honor was Miranda/Natalia's plan. Being that she was also apart of the board of Wayne Enterprises, it would not have been difficult to know about Batman's weaponry. Sure, it would be out of Dagget's reach, but when you have Bane on your side, a lot of things become easily more attainable. The twist that Miranda Tate (or not really, if you read the comics) was the daughter that escaped the pits, and is the head of this operation explains a lot of things. Especially why the first truck they searched for the bomb was empty. She tracked the car and threw them off with a false signal, and even at that point nobody would have been suspicious of her. 4. It's as Bane has said. You only know true despair when you are given hope. The reactor is there to give them hope that they can actually save the city. Their plan is not full proof, but they believe that it is very good and they are betting on the odds that Bruce will never escape the pit and come save his city. This was her mistake, but again, it's apart of her character. Slow knife, despair/hope, etc. She could have even killed Bruce at the end had she not wanted him to suffer at the loss of his city. 5. The bat? Sure. Could be some rand building but it probably isn't. Could even be Wayne Enterprises. This one I could care less about. |

SPOILER!!
I see Nightwing movies being made after this. Nolan said he would never do Robin, and he didn't. This isn't sidekick Robin, it's Nightwing Robin. This toy line up from the movie spilled it pretty good. Nightwings suit has a blue bat. And LOL at all the people that couldn't 100% enjoy this movie. You always just have to form some type of negative opinion don't ya? lol Edit-The ONLY negative thing I have to say about this movie is...where the fuck was Azrael?? I was thinking Gordon-Levitts character was for sure going to play Azrael, and just rain hell down on Bane.

**spoiler alert**
That one had me scratching my head too. lol Thinking back there were some unanswered questions, but addressing them would have made the movie probably four hours long. I'm surprised there was no reference to the Joker in this movie....well maybe the knife stabbing scene.

***** spoilers********
What I don't understand is why does he "die" exactly? He was broke due to false trades he would be able to prove fraud and get his money back. Does no one in Gotham find it odd after batman sacrifices himself to save the city Brucr also turns up dead now? I don't see the purpose to making the world think you are dead.

Spoiler alert..
I think the biggest reason for his 'death' is easiest explained by Alfred: The city of Gotham doesn't need Batman, they need Bruce Wayne and his resources. There was nothing in Gotham for him. So he gave the city his resources, gave his home to the orphans, etc. And he left behind the life that he never really enjoyed in the first place, without tarnishing the name that his Father built. He was Bruce Wayne, billionaire playboy. That was the mask that he put on to face his world, so he left that behind with Selina Kyle where they both could start fresh. |

I'm sure they would account the death of Bruce Wayne sometime during Banes revolution. Remember no one has seen Bruce wayne since before his fight with Bane.

As for John Blake growing into Nightwing, maybe, I guess. I mean, he can very well run around telling criminals his real name... "I'm Robin". He'd get discovered ASAP. I think John Blake is a mashup combining Dick Grayson's maturity and Tim Drake's investigative skills. As for just being negative about the movie in general, nah man... It just really was not up to the standard of the other two. Even the hyper conceptual Inception didn't make to take this many blind leaps of faith to explain away the giant, unexplained plot holes. I think Daftpunk was applied some good reasoning to them, but Nolan doesn't usually direct like that, IMO. Inception made you have to fill in the blanks because of its dreamlike nature. Dark Night Knight Rises makes your fill in the blanks because it wasn't directed as well, IMO. |

i finally got to watch the movie yesterday after lagging/running errands last weekend. I wish i didn't read you guys talking about the movie being rushed edited to fit the less than 3 hr imax limit and had broken plot holes so i wouldn't have thought about it during the movie.
I still enjoyed it and think it is probably equal or slightly better than the first movie, but not as good as the second. i think tom hardy did a great bane. i like how he was bigger, stronger, and smarter than batman. his voice and especially the way he talked made him seem intelligent rather than some meat head. Anne Hathaway did a great catwoman too and made me look past the whole isn't Selena Kyle suppose to be a blond thing?. she seemed in character and talked like a cat. the rest of the crew seemed perfectly casted too except I expected Talia Al Ghul to be WAYYY HOTTER according to the comics lol (but she wasn't even as hot as catwoman in this movie). scarecrow guy looked more like a guy than a girl in this movie so that was cool too and i wish raz al ghul had a bigger role than just flashbacks (i enjoy Liam Neeson). |

SPOILER ALERT

kind of shocking to me since it pretty much happens in real life during human history where the prior government, wealthy, and educated are robbed and killed after they lose in war and are conquered while the rest of the population is converted. Quote:
i agree with that. definitely up to interpretation with all the blanks. maybe you guys can explain some things to me. my questions and gripes are: 1. why was bruce wayne in a cane and had no cartilage at the joints in his knees and elbows? did his body wear down due to inactivity and sitting on his ass for 8 years? 2. how did bane become bane and why no venom? Nolan did the scarecrow toxic gas thing in the first movie and venom is basically just super steroids. it would still be realistic. it's not like asking Nolan to put something crazy and unrealistic in the movie like Clayface or Killer Croc. 3. Why is his real name robin? wasn't it suppose to be dick grayson, jason todd, or tim drake? i guess because the general public watching the movie would be clueless and wouldn't know robin's real name anyways but everyone knows of Robin? 4. Shitty ending to me but its possible bruce wayne ejected out way before the bomb exploded. i guess giving all his assets to the city and him faking his death is Nolan's way of saying this is the END of my batman story and leaves the city to Robin. 5. what really bothered me was the timing of everything. the bomb countdown and the time that gotham city was under lockdown seemed REALLY OFF and SKIPPY. the bomb countdown seem like it went from a few months to 23 hours to 20 mins too quickly (probably the editing issues you guys mentioned). they should have at least edited the bomb countdown to have more realistic time. when they finally found the bomb on the truck it had like 20 mins. no way all that driving, gordon climbing onto the truck and putting the remote detonation scrambling thing on it only took 10 mins off. DEFINITELY NO WAY for them to strap the bomb to batwing, batman farewell kiss to catwoman, and fly the bomb 6 miles from the city out of explosion range only took 2 mins. that kiss probably took like 30 seconds alone and then bats just casually walked towards the batwing with the timer counting down and take off probably takes another minute. haha at first i was kind of questioning myself why the movie didn't seem true to its roots (comics), some of the unexplained plot holes, and why that weird ass ending. i came to realize that's just not how superhero movies are and comic books have multiple stories going on at once for a single character all the time. this was just Nolan telling his version of his story.

Add this one to your gripes, FRPilot: That truck crash apparently 'killed' Talia al Ghul. How the fuck did Gordon survive being in the trailer bouncing around with a 2 ton nuclear bomb?

maybe it was what she was wearing in this movie. she looked more mature and thicker (older and not as fit) than catwoman in this movie. Quote:
too much story, not enough time to tell it. maybe nolan should have made this third movie in 2 parts like they did with one of the harry potter movies. |

Perfect? No. Way better than the average flick? Yes. Complaining over nitpicky crap? No.

Good movie. Really really enjoyed it, would like to watch it again... too bad movie theaters are just a pain to get to here in Korea.
Also, no way Marion Cotillard > Anne Hathaway. Evar.
