S13 ECU problem???

I recently bought this s13 which had a push button hack job. Whenever I would crank the car it would start but my car wouldnt go past 4,000 rpm. Almost seemed like the ECU wasnt turning on. I thought fixing the push button and putting the ignition back to stock would fit it but it still has not. The car will drive normally though if while im driving i turn the car off then i pop the clutch to start it. Almost seems if i do that the ECU turns on and the cars runs normally after that. I don't want to keep having to do this procedure everytime i drive my car. If anybody has any ideas feel free to chime in. Thanks.

Sounds like your ecu is in safe mode like when you unplug the maf. Because, if the ecu wasn't turning on I don't think the car would start at all. Did you check the ecu for any fault codes?

Yeah i tried to check but the led light just stays lit. Its weird becuase when I crank the car it starts but the ecu stays lit even when not in diagnostic mode. Also when I'm driving and i turn the ignition off then i roll start it in gear, then turn ignition back to the on position the ecu light goes away. After that whole ordeal the car runs normal.

Sounds like a wiring issue, possibly dead maf, and maybe something wrong with you ecu.

If you have a KA24DE, I have a Working ECU for sale for 30.00$ incase you need one.
