hey anyone tried a HKS sport catback on their SR20? how does it sound??

i cant stand my buddyclub blastpipes noise and would like to go back to a more quieter one.

I have one on my car... absolutely LOVE IT!!! wouldnt trade it for the world!

super low key, looks 100% OEM, is nice and quiet under cruising speeds, gets loud AF at WOT and cops never look twice at your car!

if you dont like loud, get one! theyre TOTALLY worth it!!!

my ONLY gripe with it is, youll lose a little top end power because its not the best flowing exhaust, but i think all around its great!

Apex has the world sport II and the noir. Get something with traditional style muffler and resonator & it will be pretty tame.

haha i dont think that topend lost will be that noticable but the gain from midrange will be felt

I have one on my ka s13 and ill never go back. I agree with dorkidori, sounds great and looks low key!

I have one on my SR swapped S13 as well, love the sound, love the low key look.

I swapped from a HKS Hi-power, hated the fart cannon.

I had it on my bolt on sr and it has a bit more backpressure than I would like. the tip looks like crap after the first pass at the skid pad.


if I had to do it again I would go for the noir or something like it that flows better.

are these resonator-less exhausts really that quiet? I would imagine the apexi noir to have less drone with the added resonator in the midpipe.

I had the HKS sport at the same time as the Apexi Hybrid Megaphone at the same time on different cars with the same setup (PBM cobra, GTX turbos, test pipes) and the HKS was quieter even without a resonator.

I have a GT Spec now and it's not too loud given the resonator but obv fart cannon.

RSR exmag is loud as fuck. I used to love that exhaust but after driving with an Apexi Noir I can't take the blat anymore.
(s14 sr, pbm cobra, resonated test pipe)
Thinking about selling it or welding in a resonator to quiet it down.

I think we all have different opinions on what's loud. IMO, anything louder than a stock evo is obnoxiously loud..maybe I'm just getting older.

I have a custom exhaust similar to the RSR exmag and the HKS sport - vibrant dual tip with no resonator. It isn't loud to the point where you can't have a normal conversation in the car, but it still drones on the highway at certain rpms which gets super annoying. It's also really loud at WOT.

I ordered an apexi noir because it has a resonator and the muffler is 2 inches taller than my vibrant muffler which should quiet things down.

I feel the same way, I just didn't think mine was that loud lol. I run a resonated 2.5" BRM exhaust on my KA s13 and it's really quiet. The only issue is I'm pretty low AND on 15's and this exhaust isn't tucked as well as it easily could be so it scrapes a lot. Plus, the picture of the single tip on their website showed an oval muffler with round tip similar to this HKS and the Exmag, but what I got almost looks like a fart cannon. i'm just going to get a full custom 2.5" from the turbo elbow back made soon once I boost the KA.

The BRM's seem expensive for what they are. I priced one out not too long ago and it was like 700+ for a basic exhaust. The HKS sport is a little over $300 which is cheaper than what some used exhausts go for lol. What annoys me with mine is it sounds like theres a damn subwoofer behind my head on decel. The exhaust vibrations also reverberate through the car in certain rpms, but that might be because of the polyurethane hangers. It was cool when i was a young whipper-snapper but now i'm turning into an old senile fuck who want's to listen to mozart on his way to work.

wow that sounds really quiet. how is it under load/acceleration?

Well i installed it tonight and i really like the sound of it. Quiet and Refined.
Midrange power is improved compared to my buddyclub, but i havent really step on it to redline tho.

The only cons i say is that its a low hanging exhaust, the exhaust flange currently is about 1" off the ground

I got 2.5" with the biggest resonator and paid $450 shipped. For having the option of piping size and ability to add a resonator, I was ok with the price, but now I wish I had just gone to a muffler shop with a muffler of my choice and gotten custom piping made. It would have been tucked a lot better and I wouldn't have been stuck with a fart cannon. I could have fought it because the muffler their website shows is completely different and was exactly what I wanted, but oh well. Ill be forking out more money soon and doing what I should have done in the first place unless I can find an s13 RSR exmag

I just ordered a brand new hks sport for 320 shipped. If it's as good as everyone says it is you cant beat it imo
