That build looks like great fun. I've been rebuilding a motorcycle basket case off craigslist as well. Picked up an 04 r6 with a clean title for $450. It came in a box :/
I've been toying with doing the same thing based around an old HKS T24 I got for almost free. Any close ups for what you did with oil lines?

I wish people would at least attempt to take my profession seriously when they play pretend with it.
Not cleaning your material first? That's like step one every time.

I find cleaning the step before welding as cutting and all seems to cause a little mess. Cleaning however definitely is important for sure though. Especially on parts that will receive a lot of pressure in example the knuckles.

You should always prep the surface before welding if you want a proper weld. There is no excuse.

I will edit this... more politely put. If I was to represent the company I work for on a public forum and would be more kind as to give people a good vibe towards my business. there is that old saying. You catch more flies with honey then you do with vinegar. Last edited by Tony_T; 11-25-2013 at 03:37 PM.. |

I agree with his comment. Being self taught I know first hand the cleanliness makes all of the difference.

Sorry i hadnt had my coffee yet lol. I guess what i was trying to say is that people come to this forum to showcase something they are proud of and to give/take constructive criticism. You will get farther by saying something positive followed by the lesson to be learned. I dunno. I see guys like jonny fraz and blu808 put some bang up work on here and never hesitate to give props and help to other forum members while others take up the holier than though approach.
I for one love this thread and would like to see more work posted even if it is someones first project. Some people may be afraid of what people have to say and decide not to post. After all we all had to start somewhere. And I am sure even the most amazing fabricators learned a thing or two form someone else. |

Yeah and I listened to people when they said to clean a weld site before welding.
I didn't even point out any particular person or post, just in general. You gotta start with the BASICS or don't be expected to be taken as someone who is truly wanting to learn and improve. What a baby. Edit: To stay on topic here's some stainless steel I welded. Pictures stolen from my Instagram account. .045 308L filler, 3/32" 2% tho. tung., #8 cup, gas lens, 15cfm argon

Well, got good with mig and though it would be a good time to upgrade.
Ended up trading my Lincoln Mig 140hd +$100 for a ahp alpha tig 200dx After searching for a bit in my price range, this one seemed to have the best reviews and specs. Asked some friends who have this welder and recommended it so thought it would be great to get. Should show up Dec 2nd or so. Cant wait...

^good choice tauntdevil
First tig I bought was an Eastwood tig200, would only work with torch trigger, foot pedal wouldn't work at all. After multiple pedals they finally asked to send back the welder as it was defective. I asked for a refund as a friend who builds amazing cars here in NY got a deal with AHP and told me about their 200dx. Don't get worried by this but first welder was defective and everyone else i've talked to hasn't had a problem with ahp at all, I have horrible luck with welders, they're customer service is awesome and very nice people, I returned the welder to them they sent me a paid ups slip, and got my new welder a week from the day I shipped the old one to them. Now I can weld with a pedal finally and having fun burning through 16g aluminum pipe every night seriously though love this machine pulse is an awesome feature and the HF start is another nice feature!!! Ill be posting up pics once I'm not so embarrassed lol |

Finished off the Miata vband manifold I have been working on. Light port work and then I can box it up.
