Refused Alignment; Have a few questions.
I was refused for my alignment yesterday, after waiting over an hour for him to get to look at the car (I thought I made an appointment for a specfic time but okay then) and was refused for a few reasons:
1) Worn Right Outter Tie Rod. ~ Understandable, 17year old car; Time to Upgrade. 2) Worn Ball Joints, both sides, Front. ~ Understandable, 17year old car; How do I go about replacing these? I never needed to look into it, so I don't know how, if possible, I can. (Seems MOOG Ball Joints are of the more suggested for replacement, $40-$50??, Friend has Bushing Press, sweet.) 3) Blown/Leaking Front Coilovers =( ~ I called this, earlier in the week I was driving and there is bridge near my house that goes over a river and as I was jamming away, I swore I heard a "pop" of some sort when I first got on the bridge, since I didn't hear it clearly b/c of the music, I didn't think much of it at the time, but I saw I was "bouncing" more then I usually did, running Stiff KSports, I was used to the "bouncing" already. ~I have KSports that have been running good for well over 2 years. Should I look into rebuilding them? My 240 is my only means of transportation, it would be very hard for me to have them sent out. I searched and came up with no luck on KSports specifically, but does anyone know price/turn around time for having them rebuilt? General rebuild seems to be 150-250 a pair with a 2week to 4week turn around time, from what I found searching. Or option 2 save for a new set. I really did like my KSports, but I think I will upgrade and go with Stance, which has always been a fav of mine personally. So guys, if you could answer those few Q's as I go do some more searcing, I'd appreciate it!

Get new tie rods, do you want to upgrade? If not buy Teins.
Buy new Lower control arm ball joints Moog should be fine. Buy new coilovers Ksports suck.

I do want to upgrade, you said "If NOT, by Tein" Typo? Or were you refering them as not "an upgrade"...
I was searching some more and MOOG Ball joints did seem to be a consistent suggestion I know I am going to get a lot of "KSport Suck" and well that seems to be a very consistent quote going around the forums too, I was content with them; but I am advancing my setup and will try and find a good deal on some Stance and sell these to my buddy for cheap and have him rebuild it and replace his Spring setup on his "Cheapest drift car ever built"

Peepers, thanks for the suggestion! Our streets here are very bad, especially after the previous winter breaking everything up. We have more "Speed Bump" like Bumps on our streets, moreso then pot holes, but the ones that we have will swallow small children. I just got a NISMO Power Brace and it hangs lower and I've gotten a few of those holes and felt it scrape =/ I will look into HE's though, 4years on not the Best Streets, and holding up is quality in its own.

moogs work, moogs are cheap, and theres nothing particularly special about moog. they are sold by most chain autoparts stores like autozone so they are commonly available. that's why you see them come up alot.
he said tein tie rods are not an upgrade because they are functionally stock tie rods, except for the steering angle washer, which you could technically slap onto any tie rod. but once again, they work and they are cheap. an 'upgrade' would be one of those bumpsteer adjustable tie rods. unless you are going reaaally low i really don't see the point. tein he's havent been on the market for years. considering how cheap ksports are you'd probably be better off just getting a new set rather than having a ton of downtime waiting for them to get rebuilt, assuming ksport even offers that service. best option is definitely get something else. |

Poopy, thanks for the advice on the Tein's; I wasn't aware of that. I can't really go much lower with the streets around here and I'm running 15's with 195/50/15 Tires, so even though the car isn't slammed, the body is low to the ground. So I may just get the Tein Inner/Outter combo for the 170. I had in the back of my head that the HE's were off the market but I wasn't sure so I didn't bring it up, but I know I will be needing new COilovers like... now. Thanks for the help so far guys.

just to clarify for you operationsr20, although falkon and others are right about tein tie rods being oem quality
they'd still be an upgrade from what you've got since they are s14 sized (thicker) lettin ya know. |

If you really want to upgrade I would do SPL.
I've tried cheaping out on suspension components before, trying to rationalize that it was $50 cheaper than SPL and looked to be the same quality, then the shit broke on me. If you really want to upgrade, do it once, and do it right, get SPL outers and inners. Other than that just buy OEM, and some Stances or something like that.
