I realize that, but I'm not looking for the base model bargain basement version FR-S. If I'm going to shell out for something brand spanking new, or close to it, I want all the things like Navigation, alcantra and all that jazz. Like most of us here, I already have my no frills "race" car, I'm ready to have an easy to live with, yet fresh and sporty daily that won't need constant attention to enjoy. Also waiting for a turbo version too, or something closer to a STi/TRD model. All this being said though, I'm watching very closely to see how it does in the next couple of years. I've still been contemplating a low mileage 350Z, or even a nicer N/A S30. I would just rather stick to wrenching on just one car and not 2.

Lots of comments after the reviews that just came out complaining about the unimpressive 0-60, 1/4 mile times. And lots of people whining that they'd be embarrassed to lose stoplight battles to Camrys, minivans, and so on. Who is drag racing from stoplights? S2000 wasn't much faster and it cost about $10k more. I don't know what people expected from an N/A 2L motor. The car sounds like a lot of fun from these reviews. Comparisons to the much heavier and larger Mustang and GC are ridiculous IMO...I prefer smaller, more compact cars and I wouldn't really consider buying either of those.
I think a select few will really enjoy the car, but unless some forced induction shows up to the party, the general public will not and these will flop in the US. In other countries where high displacement, high powered cars are punished by high taxes and expensive gas, I think the car will be relatively popular. |

Of course that minivan with a huge V6 and lower gearing is going to jump off the line in comparison to na 2 liter design for handling. lol
More important to me is the slalom compared with similar cars. And the time on Top Gear's track. lol

idk, the next miata doesn't seem all that ambitious to me. I'd rather they throw a decent engine in there than fuss about the weight. a 150hp engine and 31-ish mpg selling at around 25k isn't much to write home about. Time will tell, but I'd much rather get a used '00 model for 5k or so, or even a lower mileage madzaspeed for $13k-ish.
Wish Mazda wouldn't be so damn conservative with the Miata. Apparently, Mazda engineers were originally planning to equip the ND with a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter inline-4 with SkyActiv technology, but couldn’t quite squeeze the desired horsepower from the engine. A variant of the current 2.0-liter inline-4 was also considered, but it couldn’t meet their fuel economy goals. Instead Mazda has narrowed it down to either a 1.8-liter inline-4 with SkyActiv or a 1.3- or 1.5-liter inline-4 with forced induction. Whichever powerplant Mazda decides on, you can expect the car to produce roughly 150 bhp with about a 10-percent improvement in fuel economy from the current MX-5’s (22 city/28 highway mpg). Another major focal point of the future MX-5 is weight. We hear the engineers are working feverishly to reduce the car’s mass to 2200 lb. or less, which means shaving about 200 lb. out of the NC while retaining its exterior dimensions. Let’s hope that Mazda can keep the price of the new MX-5 below the $25,000 mark, another main goal of the development team. Look for the MX-5 in 2014. |

On the weight, I would rather see the miata with less weight then more hp.

And with that we are 6 steps closer to the inevitable LS1 swap.

Also read in another article that it will still be rwd, front engine, about 2800lbs, and come with a 1.8l turbo engine with about 200hp. Again, not saying any of this is true, just saying that there are "rumors" out about it.
