GTR Axle Length Question
I just received some R32 GTR Axles that I was hoping to use with an S15 Helical Diff paired with R34 6X1 helical Output shafts and Q45 hubs. This combo should be good up to 500WHP, I hope.
However once I started measuring the axles I saw that the R32 axles I had received left a little to be desired, literally. After further research this is what I have found. S13 and S14 stock axle length - Driver Side: 23.5" - Passenger Side: 25.0" J30 Stock axle Lengths: - Driver Side: 23.5" - Passenger Side: 25.5 So according to this the stock J30 Passenger side is .5" longer then the factory axle but Im guessing this is not an issue once the axle is on the car. I decided to measure my J30 axles to see what I got at a static measurement. Static length of Axles for J30 Driver Side 24.75" Passenger Side 26 3/8" I noticed a roughly 1.25" difference from static to whatever was measured to get the original figures for the length of the J30 axles, so I decided I might want to know what the S14 axles would measure static but since I didn't have a set on hand to measure I figured I would just add the roughly 1.25" to the lengths I had found online. Static guesstimate of S13 and S14 Axles Driver 24.75" Passenger 26.25" Static length of Axles for Q45 Diff Swap TT Z32 24.5" Q45 Passenger Side 26 3/8" Looking at the factory static lengths we came up with and the static lengths of the Q45 diff swap we see that the Passenger side is .25" short and the Driver side is 1/8"longer both of these differences must be negligible once they are on the car otherwise how would people pull this off. However when I measure the: R32 GTR Drive shafts Static Driver 24.5" Passenger 25.75" I notice that the Passenger side drive shaft is around .5" short and the driver side is .25" short. With all that data it seems that going .5" longer and up to .25" shorter has been tried and tested but with the R32 Drive shafts am I good to go .5" short on the passenger side or am I running the risk of hurting the axles... What do you guys think.... |

I'm not too in depth with the torque specs on the axle nut VS the length of the splined shaft, so someone else can chime this;
How Ever, the more you torque that nut, the more the force is pulling apart on those joints. So I would factor in the torque you put on that nut with the .5" of shortness you have on your shaft. (I'm sorry to hear about your situation though lil buddy)

Yeah thats what I was worried about. I see that people squeeze them in there when they are .5" long but I dont know about the .5" stretch...
Anyone else have any input. |
