S13 hatchback: New coilover or new shell?
My 91 S13 hit the right rear side first on a concrete wall at about 30-40mph at the track and then rebounded and hit the front left wheel.
The right side tie rod was broken. The right side front lower control arm and tension rod were bended. I replaced the tie rod, front lower control arms, and tension rods and went to the alignment shop. The alignment shop technician told me that the front right tire is rubbing the coilover, and asked to go to a body shop for assistance. Then, the body shop technician took a look and he thought the coilover might be bended and needed to be replace. These are the pictures after I replaced the tie rod, front lower control arms, and tension rods. I am thinking maybe I should find some narrower rims for avoiding the rubbing coilover issue. This is my drift car and we will have a drift event in a month. I just want to know what is my best option right now. Thanks for the advise. |

I would say it really depends on if you like swapping everything into a new car. I mean if you have an event in a month you will have to work fast. Doing the work may not take that long but finding the shell could take a while. If it is your drift car personally i would just leave everything in this car and replace what ever needs to be done. It is going to keep getting scratched and banged up. your not going to keep getting shells every time you damage your car. I could see you getting a new one if this was a dd aswell as a track car, but just track i personally would say just leave it and fix what *needs* to be fixed. Then when you want get the body fixed. Drift scares! LMAO. What ever you end up doing good luck!

I think I will replace the coilover first to see if that fixed the rubbing problem.
If not, I think I try running spacers on the front wheels. ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting From the picture, should I run 15mm or 25mm spacers? S14 Front 15mm DRS 5 bolt H&R Spacer Kit 3065662 S14 Front 20mm DRS 5 bolt H&R Spacer Kit 4065662 PDM Racing - Tune-up Parts Thanks! |
