ok heres my story..
i have a friend with a g2 integra.. he bought the car a while back with 240k miles on it [yes i know crazy] for 1800, well the guy said he did a swap and the engine really has 70k miles. yea my friend was stupid he didnt ask for papers or anything the guy told him the engine was messed up, something with piston rod or something. my dad checked out the engine and said somebody did mess around with the engine bay, new bolts new everything, so my dad guessing yea new engine... well recently my friend came up wiht a crazy idea to try to do LS/VTEC with his poor ass. and so he was wondering if he really did have a 70k miles engine. he posted up on G2ic.com saying if VIN number had to match block number, meaning if he had 70k engine or not. some people said yea the VIN means nothing to the block number. so now he really doesnt know if he has a 70k mile engine or a 240k one. so here is where Zilvia members come into play. is there any way for him to check if he has a 240k or 70k engine? and does the VIN mean anything to the block number? if they match does it mean he has a 240k engine? saying if VIN does mean something to the block |

I'm pretty positive the engine has a seperate IN than the VIN. If you look under your hood the number should be different. They may be interconnected in some way, but if they are I don't know it.

The majority of the time when someone says new engine, it just means rebuilt. And yes they do tie the block number into the VIN, at least they did all through the 60s and 70s, because that is big factor in a collectible cars value, I just don't see why they would stop doing it.
