there was also a nice s13 coupe in one of the lower classes as well. I think in the same class as the miatas. I only saw him once and not long enough to take a picture with my slow a$$ phone cam, and I sure as heck was not going to walk around in the sun looking for him.

There's more aftermarket parts for the single cam KA, it's easier to make it go fast. And they had stay 4-lug because of regulations, I think. They have to stay as close to stock as possible, except they're nowhere near to stock. It's those dumb SCCA rules, they're getting closer and closer to Nascar all the time.

There's been a ton of GT3 S14s through the years, I saw my first one at Road Atlanta over ten years ago, same basic setup as the one in this thread. They're competitive but don't have a lot of wins combined between them. SCC did an article in 1998 on a GT3 car vs. an ITA car and a stock S14 and had a full writeup detailing the chassis work. Sunbelt in Sugar Hill has one randomly that's owned by a local team that they work on. There was even one on Ebay not long ago with a shitload of spare parts.

the soch engines are used in almost every nissan scca/racing car, there was a 350hp sohc pickup for sale a while back
but why does everyone say that dohc is better...oem to oem, it gets an amazing 15hp more and the sohc would be alot more reliable than a fully built dohc because there is less bs to break on it lol, and yes they go by hours left on the engine, the last one on ebay had like 7 hours left on the engine >>>>------7 strait hours of drifting that is |

reasoning for the SOHC is the stock horsepower ratings, the more horsepower the motor has from the factory the more you are penalized in weight. if they ran a DOHC which is rated like 17 horsepower or whatever more than the SOHC theyd have to have a payload according that or whatever. if you ever watch a GT3 race with those things they freakin haul ass out of corners, their torque is way more than anything else out there, youll see a dude in a 240 literally bump into a car infront of him because it cant get out of its way coming out of a low speed corner and literally push them. torque ftw. last GT3 i watched it was S13s in a 1-2-3 finish.

those cars are full tube frame chassis. they use quick change rear ends, and gearboxes. the sohc motor whether built by rebello or any other maker consists of standard parts available from nissan. from the rockers, crank, carb setup and so forth. there is a reason you can see a gt3 class crx and other cars compete on the same level. they are hardly still nissan based. also I was able to look at another gt3 class s14 over here in socal. and that guy ran stock radiator as well. apparently the front ducting and what not is substantial enough to not be necessary. altho i was noth sure if that was the real reason or if it were a class restriction or something.
OFF TOPIC. i have pics of a gt3 class z32 using a carb'd L28. If anything dohc seems better stock vs. stock. but do you notice the lack there of racing parts produced by nissan.

tube frame chassis weighing 2180 pounds roughly.... making 340 hp.. i think its pretty good... one of the reason why it could keep up with some of those high hp cars is probably tires... running on slicks make so much a different to street performance radials....
can u imagine making over 300 hp thru a 33mm hole.. or a smaller size choke.. because of restrictions... race cars are made to look simplistic with ingenuity.. thats the reason why they look so damn good... alot of people dont understand the concepts of making power being restricted and following the rules in their class for racing... ive seen that lime green 240 run.. its fast but not that fast.... gt3 is by far one of the larger gt classes in scca club racing... im not a big fan of ita or itx ... but i like the f and e production cars...
