OEM thermostat stuck closed after 4 months.

Hey all, my car started overheating on the way home from work yesterday. Pulled over, popped the hood, no leaks at all. The lower hose was stone cold, which is a textbook symptom of a thermostat stuck closed.

The thing that pisses me off is that this is an OEM thermostat that i bought 4 months ago from my local dealership. I got it cause the cheapo O'Reilly stat (came on the car) also got stuck closed. Has anyone ever heard of a factory thermostat failing so fast?

Just for clarity, i have a stock KA24DE, 1992.

Never had it happen personally, but it could be either luck of the draw, or a sign of a bigger issue in your cooling system. Might be worth doing a complete clean & flush this time around. And ensure you have the OEM-recommended coolant mixture.

to big of a radiator can do it too...boil the thermostat in pot of water and can see if its thermostat or not, also have not seen this on a 240 but check your waterpump to make sure vanes spin when the pulley spins...if separated/loose theres the issue

pull the tstat, put it in boiling water and see if it opens.

also flush your radiator and look for any debris that could somehow clog the tstat

How old are your hoses and radiator? Have you done a major flush of coolant lately? It will be interesting to see a photo of the thermostat after it comes out.
