KA KA24e won't start..

My friend just traded his Subaru for a 240.

We were driving it home on the highway, then all of a sudden it starts back firing after you let of the gas in gear. It did that for about 5min then we loss power and it died on the side of the highway.

It was smoking bad and smelt like oil. we checked the level and it was just a little below full. We got it towed back to our house and it hasn't started since. It cranks but won't start.

We've checked fuel, and spark shouldn't be an issue, we just got new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor.

Please someone help, I need to get it running as it's suppose to be my dd..

I tested spark and it has it, and it has fuel, I pulled the plugs and they smelt like gas. I'm gonna go get a compression tester later today, hope it has good compression.
