Monopolistic Bastards can burn in HELL!

Its rant time!

This week I have tried to download some windows media movies on three separate occasions, each time they came up with no picture or sound. So I figured there was an update from version 7 out there, here is what I discovered.

http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104-957704.html

It seems that in its infinite wisdom that Microsoft has chosen to incorporate media player into its OS and not make it available for any other platform than XP.

Quote:

"Microsoft continues tying new products such as Media Player to the OS," he said. "They are 'commingling' the player so deep into Windows, the two cannot be separated. This is an intentional programming strategy. Technically, software can be programmed to be standalone, making it separate from the OS and uninstallable. However, that would be bad for (Microsoft's) business."
I don't know how many people on this board like to have the freedom to choose software. But this severely ****es me off. As a long time Mac user I have seen the shaft come from Microsoft many times, most of the time in the form of little bugs that make their software incompatible with 3rd party software, but I didn't care too much. This time they are going too far, I see this as the start of a kind of media coup. They're allying themselves with portions of the mass media to introduce MP9.

Nothing continually makes me upset more than Microsoft's arrogant strong arm tactics.

Oh well, just had to let off steam. Flame or agree, I don't really care.

No, winamp implies windows. I have a mac, and iTunes is far superior to all other music apps anyway. So good that Microsoft "borrowed" many of its ideas for the new media player. My problem isn't with that its that the new WMP encodes movies so that older version cannot view the movies, such as these http://www.vosko.net/media/drift/dgta/

Just one more reason I make sure I DONT get the newest versions of MS software. It has a tendency to break very easily when its new. Im still using IE 5.5 and just recently upgraded to 9.00.0 of media player so I dont have to hassle with a separate divx player. Plus I use Win2k instead of XP.

XP = Xtra Problems

Have you USED XP? It is far superior in every way to any Microsoft OS ever before created. I have Win2k at work and I wish they would upgrade. XP is hyper-stable, and it works so well with my peripherals. I love it.

As for the Mac dude...I hear your pain, but I have no pity. Why should Microsoft cater to Mac users? They are a PC software company. Perhaps it's time for you to get SoftWindows or something. Why is it always Microsoft's fault?

Imagine if every car company used different filler necks for their gas tanks, and you could only go to a certain filling station. This is how lame the computer industry is. Monopoly or not...computers are tools and should be standardized. People need to just get with the program and AGREE. We could have GREAT computers if there weren't so many people trying to develop UNIQUE platforms. But whatever. It's my opinion.

Yep, I tested it on my other computers to see what it was like when it came out and its just like a pretty version of win2k, made so that people who dont know much about computers will be lured into buying it because it looks good. It also contains a LOT of extraineous code which means potential slowdowns and diminished stability. Although its better than ME because of the NT code, it still doesnt live up to the 'all-business' attitude (and stability) of win2k. Ive been running this install of win2k for over 2 years straight without a reformat. If XP works for you then by all means use it, its just that many people have problems with it. I personally dont like the 'newest bestest' software for the reason I stated above. Plus why switch when win2k works perfectly with zero problems? No reason.

All MS OSs are buggy by default.
