S15 Spec S

Hey guys, recently imported a s15 spec s for a friend of mine and has been sitting at my place for a little bit now. We're planning to perform a rb25 conversion (thats why we went spec S).

I just have to share this car, its incredible. Let me know what you guys think. It's eye candy for sure!

I will likely post a build thread up soon on here!

Wait this is landed in Ontario, and is already at you place?

If so, you're the fist person that I know of in Canada with one...

Congrats, and you should post up a build thread

Haha thanks man, I figured somebody out there had already beat me to it but I really hope i'm first!

I started sourcing this one back in November and shipped Dec 16 to JUST meet the 01/14 mature date. I had to get a dealer letter confirming the manufacture date by VIN for CBSA and it worked out perfectly. It was looking as if I was going to land early but due to weather the vessel was delayed by a bit and landed 02/14. A few days later it cleared customs and 5 days on a train/truck it was home

I'm currently sourcing a rb25 NEO for the build, should go well. Likely going to start sometime early February so i'll keep you guys posted. I got really lucky finding this example with >70,000kms haha

Damn well you beat me and my Spec R. It's a January build as well, but it's currently on the slow boat. I believe it's landing in the next week or two (left at the end of December).

Anyways, I look forward to seeing what you have planned for this!

Beautiful car. Would rather see a VQ30DET + CD0009 go into though, but I know most ppl have never even heard of that engine.

Ah I won't clutter your thread with it. I do look forward to seeing this thing in person though. Hopefully it will be up and running at events this summer. I don't usually go out, but I've been told that I need to get my head from under this rock

I have never heard of the VQ30DET, although I remember hearing something about the VQ30..or 35 DETT being used in the 02-03 skylines. The non production race cars though I don't think it was ever a production engine though. Fill me in, this sounds fun lol

I'm almost the same way, I sponsored a few events last year and made it out a couple times but I like my comfortable spot under my rock :P

Post up a thread, i'm dying to see this R!

I'll have to PM you, you're likely not far from me and we would have to get these S15's together at some point!

The VQ30DETT is stuff of legend and not for us mortals... It replaced the RB26DETT in the Skylines & Z33's used for JGTC races. It was basically the twin turbo version of the VQ30DET in race build form.

But the VQ30DET the street version of the race-bred motor thats very much possible for mortals to possess. 280hp 3.0L single turbo DOHC V6 that weighs the same as an SR20DET (roughly half of what an RB25/26 weighs). Stock T3 turbo, internals good for 500ish HP, gobs of torque & it mates up to the 350Z's 6spd trans with some work. But since it's older than the VQ35, it has less electronic nannies, so swapping should be simpler and parts interchangeability with the VQ35 and the Maxima's FWD VQ30DE(K).

It's the big Daddy of Nissan's VQ series engines that are still in use today. It was in production from '95 to 2007 in JDM vehicles like the Cima, Leopard, Gloria & Cedric. It's not popular because Nissan never dropped it into a production sports car. So supplies should be plentiful, not picked over & prices should be decent..

Basically, if you consider the Z33's VQ35 to be like an unrefined KA24DE truck motor , the VQ30DET is the SR version. I've only seen a few JDM and Aussie cars pull off the swap though. The stock turbo manifold design runs right were LHD cars steering column would be, which discourages most USDM owners from even attempting the swap.

Here's one into an S15, but I've seen some RHD S-chassis swaps where they didn't fab new manifolds & just used the stock units...

Um, yeah feel free to do so. It would be nice to meet more locals (especially ones with S15's)
