I'm looking for opinions on this. The 240sx I bought is currently on some FAST hayaku rims, 17x8, +25mm offset and some spacers with integrated studs of unknown thickness (will check tonight). The car has the 5 lugs/300zx brakes, is on coilovers and run 225/45/17 up front and 235/45/17 in the back. Fenders have been rolled.

Now, I just bought some 225/45/17 continental race slicks for it that will go on those rims. The kicker is that I'm now looking for a cheap set of rims that will act double duty of keeping the car movable when the slicks are not in use and as a set of rear rims for eventual drifting.

I found a great deal on some FAST tarantula 17x8. One rim has a cracked spoke but that doesn't matter much to me as only need 2 solid ones for drifting.

The problem is that they have a +40 offset. Considering my other +25mm rims already have spacers, would it be a problem to run those, possibly with even more spacers? Especially for drifting.

What size are your the spacers on your Hayakus? The spacers are basically adding offset, so if you can find out the total offset of your current set up then measure out the different you'll get better idea of fitment.

I though spacers 'removed' offset? As in, a 50mm offset wheel with a 25mm spacer will sit like a 25mm offset wheel.

My spacers are studded and if I had to eyeball, I'd say about 20mm. But I'll measure them tonight.

So if my 25mm offset wheels are installed with a 20mm spacer, that would be a total 5mm offset. That'd mean I'd need a 35mm spacer for my 40mm offset wheels. Or basically an extra 15mm spacer regardless of what's currently on there to have the same stance right?

I just checked some pictures I had took and it looks like the front ones don't have studs. Seems like I might find even more shenanigans tonight.




I guess my question is: Is it safe to buy those rims? As in, worst case scenario, if they don't fit as is, I'll just need extra 15mm spacers on top.

D'oh, you're right and I've misread your post and I just naturally think in negative offset. I will re-read and re-think your problem haha

I would personally feel fine, just make sure your studs are solid and you double check your torque on the lugs are good dude. I would spend a little extra money for known quality parts for this particular application.

Daily driving I wouldn't worry at all.
So long as it's not your daily I wouldn't worry about AutoX or Track use either - it's a pretty controlled environment so if there's an issue you'll come out safe.

So I took the wheels off. Turns out that while the fronts are 17x8, the rear rims are actually 17x9. The front spacers are 5mm for a total of 20mm offset. The rear spacers are 20mm for a total of 5mm offset. The different width front and rear makes things a little more difficult.
