I am at the point where I need to purchase R compound tires for the first time and was looking for a little advice. Thus far the only tires in my price range (of <$200ea) which are also available in the sizes I want, are the victoracers, and Advan a032r's.
I have read through pages and pages of reviews on www.tirerack.com regarding both tires and am now officially dizzy. From what I can gather the advan is allot louder that the victoracer (not much of a concern) it also performs better in wet conditions.

The one thing that there are mixed reviews on is how long each tire last. Some say they can get 12 events, while others say they could only get about three events.

Which tire will exhibit better ware characteristics at full tread depth for HPDE's? I will have the tires heat cycled before they arrive.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give on the topic I will be placing an order before the C.O.B. today.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that i would be interested in the hard compound A032r, not the soft.

I get exactly two summers out of my A032R on my good weather daily driver plus I do auto x every other weekend all summer car is a 99 trans am WS-6 using 275/40/17 ao32r tires full time

are you serious? On a 300hp car you get 2 years out of these things? Dont they have a treadwear of 60?? Are you using the soft or hard compound? Thanks in advance- Rob

This probably won't help at all, but I have autocrossed Advan AO32R Softs and Kumho V700s. I would have to say that I felt the V700 had more ultimate grip, but didn't "talk" like the Advans did at the limit.

Also, I received both of these tires used... V700s $Free with about 4 events till I got to the chords by newb-flat-spotting, AO32Rs $10 about 40% tread left, and still going strong. So I really can't comment about heat cycles, tread life, or even grip at speed (for HPDEs)

I would recommend getting some used cheap tires from another racer if you are new to the whole R compound thing. I would be wicked pissed if I was boiling away $600 of brand new rubber flatspotting them on my first few runs. But then again, I am a bit biased, and a sloppy driver.

I will be running 255ft 275rr (pulling fenders & quarters ofcourse)

Since this will be a non competition HPDE car I plan to take the first few sessions easy maybe 7/10ths to get use to the car have a little fun but mostly learn. If I am flat spotting the tires at 7/10ths there is something wrong with me or the brakes

the victoracers are like a DOT slick. once shaved they are golden. like Hoosiers DOT slick. shave them and your set. My friend is using the brand new toyo RA1 and he hasn't shaved them yet. He did an entire weekend of Honda Challenge (practice, warm-up, and 2 races). If you are wanting to use an R-compound street tire go with the Kumhos or A032s. the A032s are more forgiving as a street tire but do not have the ultimate grip of a slick. I say run the A032 first then run a set of victoracers in the summer since it will be warmer. If you have more questions hit up the road racing forums like honda-tech. and the bimmer forums. since most 240s don't road race. a few guys do. like Halo and AceInHole.

I run A032Rs, but for ultimate grip, I would go with V700s... They grip more. Let's say that the Advans are an entry level R-compound. It's not too expensive, they are good in the rain, they don't wear out that quickly (mileage or heat cycles)..

I run hard compound you must remember I am in the snow belt so the car is daily driven with these tires from april to october or november so it is not like i am getting 24 months out of them but yes I do get two full summers out of em

oh and BTW they hum like a mothafucka sound like offroad truck tires

I am thinking about trying the new perelli (sp) corsa or the A048 when i get my nissan up and running again

Yeah, a HPDE is quite a bit different than an autocross in terms of what a tire sees. My first couple events I went 12/10ths just to learn the limits of the tires.

If its a non-competitive event, I'd say go with the Advans(or even a good Summer tire). While you will give up some time to a similar car on Hoosiers, V710s, or even V700s, The Advans will be much kinder towards the limit, and keep you out of walls

you made a good choice. i run victoracers for autox. i used them at about 8-10 events so far, and they had about 1/2 tread left. i used them once at a track event and fried them!! so now im out a set. they dont stand up to heat well b/c they are an autox tire. if your gonna track and autox, you need something more versitile. ive got 2 yr old hoosier RS03's on it now. they hold up GREAT at track events, but dont get even warm at autoxes.

Have you tried any of that tread restoring compound stuff? Apparently you can just brush it on and it chemically softens the tires. I have been told it'll last about 6 autocross events.

The reason I ask is because all this talk about race tires made me go whore around for another set. I just picked up a pair of 205/50/15 Hoosier R3S03s and a pair of 205/50/15 A3S03s The R3S03s are a bit hard. Maybe if I put them on the rear, my tire warmer and I can get some heat into them.

I think shaved would still be the way to go. To much tread holds on to more heat. I have had better luck with shaved tires then full tread tires for HPDE's. If you go full tread then be real careful. In group 1 it does not matter much because you seldom get 20-30 min straight. But in group 2-3 you can get enough time with a good run that you can overheat the tires and chunk them.

nice... ive always said it'd be ideal to have 3 sets of wheels, a set for street, a set for autox, and a set for track events. each situation needs a unique compound. sounds like you've got that, im jealous!
