from a legal standpoint, the case never had a chance. just a bunch of circumstantial evidence, nothing concrete. while we can put that evidence together and say that in all likelyhood, she probably did it, "probably" doesn't count in the legal system. it is the burden of the prosecution to prove "without a reasonable doubt" that she was guilty. there is no middle ground in law; either you did it or you didn't do it. based on what i've read while the case was going on, the prosecution's case just wasn't good enough. simple as that.

But I don't get how she was not found guilty of child neglect/abuse for not reporting her missing child for 30 fucking days. Thats some BS!

I see it as all the people wanting to prosecute her want the maximum. "Lets give her the death penalty!" They were pushing for all kinds of murder and the death penalty. Nothing was concrete yet they kept pushing for everything and I'm sure if they stopped and took a breath and realized that they could've just gotten her with other shit that FOR SURE she could be found guilty of, then that's better than what shes gonna get now which is just four counts of lying. |

Me when I found out the verdict:
think holding off on the case until they had a bit more of a solid foundation for the charges they wanted to lay against her would have greatly helped their cause. If you don't have the necessary evidence to clearly connect at least one point A with one point B, in my opinion you either 1) hold off until you get the right evidence 2) get the suspect for what you can clearly establish proof of (obstruction, child neglect, probably even accomplice). Again, that's just my opinion. This woman is clearly guilty of something(s) regarding this tragic death. But it seems to me that the prosecution hoped the jury would be more willing to accept the idea that it's "clear" she did it without having to connect those dots for the jury. I guess it just depends on how much liberty the jury feels like taking. |

Yeah it's not 100% accurate, nor is it always diligently updated but the convenience makes up for it. Not like we're writing dissertations for our doctorates. I use Wiki all the time for writing papers, it's just never my only source & I never use it as a reference. |

i can agree with that. the only thing i can think of is that the prosecution didn't make enough of a case to show that she wasn't actively searching for her daughter for 30 days before reporting it. most of us would do that instantly, but, lest we forget, there's a portion of our society who always says "fuck the police", so it's hard to say. we could probably conclude that she just partied for a month, but i dunno. i can't say justice was served, but i don't want to sit here and critique the jury. it's not their fault that the prosecution sucked. |

Thousands of children are dying everyday from hunger. They are starving to death all around the world and dying from diseases that can be easily cured using modern medicine. Stop arguing about what doesn't matter anymore and make some positive changes that will matter to other children. (Donate)

There's a reason why she never testified, because she knows she would get caught in a web of lies. Protip: If you can keep a dead body hidden for 6 months in Floridian swamp weather you'll walk away from murder charges.

The main problem here is that the people chiming in are already biased towards the case "OMG THE CHILD!!! SHE DID IT!" get over yourselves the kids fucking dead, instead of trying her ass to get locked up they should have waited and tried her for lesser counts. The law simply failed this time on not gathering substantial evidence to get her locked up. I find it funny that the majority of people don't know anything and haven't even seen the trials trying to chime. They never had a case on her and the body was too decomposed to start pointing fingers and start a trail. It sucks but that's life, she got away from the law but not God.

there's no excuse for not reporting to the authorities if your child is dead or missing. An Oklahoma woman is looking to petition U.S. lawmakers to Create "Caylee's Law," which would make it a felony to not report a child's death or disappearance in a timely manner. Michelle Crowder took to the social-change Web site sitechange.org on Tuesday seeking signatures in support of her campaign, following Casey Anthony's acquittal on the charge that she murdered her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Anthony. For the campaign, Crowder is petitioning U.S. President Barack Obama, the Senate and the House of Representatives. If anyone goes missing, we don't know if they're dead or alive.
Either way, there's nothing to lose by doing doing so. The idea as I understand it, is that you get help where's it's beyond your ability to do so. |

If you can't prove which crime the perp committed, then you can't convict them of anything. This is how our justice system works, it is how it is supposed to work.

I still haven't cared enough to read up on why all you people are so upset. Something about allegedly killing a baby, and maybe a pool was involved?

Well hey if you're interested in other topics, you can always open a new thread.
By that logic, we should never ever discuss topics you see as less important than Darfur, Mexico, etc.. Where would you draw the line? Human suffering is just that. You don't suffer any less because someone else suffers any more. All topics are just as valid imo. |

I'm not sure I can fix the world, however, I am pretty confident I can make small changes in my local government.
Another way to put it. Are you more concerned about the robbery that took place next door, or the one that took place in the next state? |
