KA24E Oil pan Gasket?

Is it necessary?

I just took the pan off of a blown KA24E and the replacement one and neither of them had a gasket. They both were just RTV'd on there.

Is it necessary? Are they prone to leaking?

I just don't want to have to pull the tranny off to remove the pan 6 months down the road when it starts leaking.

And while I'm at it, does the water pump have a gasket? I'm pulling one off the blown motor and putting it in the new one. When I pulled it out it just had a few strips in recessed areas. Just RTV it?

You can use the same one for the water pump as well..

Unless you really feel like buying a lower grade RTV lol.

you need to use an actual rubber gasket for the Valve cover because of the way the cover is shaped.

But you will need to use RTV on the Cam Plugs

right. I have the VC gasket but I was going to put just a little bit of RTV on it. And definitely RTV the plugs.

Gasket = 1 time use and only one purpose

RTV = multiple uses, many purposes.
