Thanks. Your manifold is looking great as usual. We are actually just using those flat ovals for under the tranny crossmember. It will go from what you see in the pics to a 3.5" standard oval. which is 2.5x4" then to two oval mufflers, and then to two more muffs after the axle. Luke

Thanks for all the other comments guys. Im sure anyone can be good at fab if they have the right approach. I consider my skills as being a noob compared to other fabricators that I know.

Wow. Great job on that aluminum. What machine were you using? It is often hard for a beginner to learn on thin stuff like tubing.
Congrats.

Finished the manifold. The wastegate routing is less than ideal but I think it will be fine. The turbine outlet and exhaust still need to be made but I have to get the engine back in the car for that.

Luke,
Its 065 wall. I'll be making a substantial brace for the turbo as well as the wastegate. I weighed the manifold and its 11 lbs. Next time i'll have to be 035 wall inconel for a sub 5 lb package (when I win the lotto). |

I love Wiggins clamps. I would put them on everything if I factored $10k into the budget for clamps. Brian, did you see those XRP ones? They're pretty sweet and they have AN fittings that they'll mate to, so you can use them on braided lines and don't need the weld ferrules.
PS. Leave the pinstripe. |

Yeah, why does all the cool stuff have to be super expensive.
But box and pan brakes are where its at. If I had the room for it, it would be on the short list of stuff I would buy without thinking if a decent deal came along. That and a mill and a lathe and a giant bandsaw. |

Brian, are those door bars going to be legal? i was reading that the door bars have to connect to the main hoop, We were wanting to bite your style and run it the same way on one of the cars we are prepping here, but i want to make sure it will pass Tech for NOPI 08.
Giant bandsaws are great. I still regret selling mine it broke and i should have just fixed it, i still have a little one, but i hate using it. i think my favorite toy is the precision tig, then my bridge port. I really want to buy a pan box brake, im saving up for a nice used one.

Yeah, I need more space and then I'll get cool toys. All I need is a bandsaw, a mill, a lathe, box and pan brake, my welder and I can make just about anything. Of course once I get all that stuff, I'm just going to want more and more random stuff. Like a waterjet cutter. I really want to go and use the one at S&W, they have like a 6'x12' working area for water jet cutting or something ridiculous like that. And it cuts up to 5" thick Alunimum.
But all I have right now is my sweet bench shear. It's not that big, but it's strong enough to easily cut all the floor plates. It was only like $80 and it's saved me so much more than that in cutoff wheels and time versus using a pnuematic cut off wheel. Oh and my belt spindle sander is sweet too. It goes up and down and around and runs either belts or sanding rolls. |

they should be legal. i see this being way safer than a nascar bar with like 3 or 4 bends in it like some people do it. im rolling with it. ..... and i MIGHT even attach small pcs from the main hoop to the door bars just so it "technically" attaches to the main hoop. i also know of another car running in NOPI next year with this door bar design(car i got the idea form. ) |

xracer: if you insist on SS flanges, contact burns stainless. if they can't do it for you, you might just have to find a local metal cutting company that can make one on a flowjet/laser cutter, etc. just take them a gasket.

i have access to both a water jet, and a cnc plasma cutter. if you want to do the cad work i can get them cut for you. i will pretty much do it for the cost of material and like a couple bucks for some of my time. at this point i just want more practice using the machines, and im a college student who doesnt give a fuck and wants to see cool projects happen.
