car losing power as i drive
'92 240sx
134,xxx miles I have been having issues driving my car for the past couple weeks. my car has been losing power when i gas it. by losing power, i mean it feels like it pulls but its very weak. its like the rpm jumps up but there is very weak to no pull. i have notice that it happens on hot days. i have not encountered this problem driving later at night. Also, when this happens I noticed the engagement point on my clutch pedal is very high up, almost at the tip. Notes on car in case its related (im a noob): a/c low pressure hose replaced about 3 weeks ago. (A/C was working okay before this problem occurred. then my A/C lost its COLD. it is currently not working anymore [a/c light does not even turn on]) my radiator has a small leak(replacing soon) Clutch master cylinder replaced 2 weeks ago. |

[QUOTE=jaked23;4144124]sounds like ur clutch is slipping. try bleeding or replacing the wouldn't a slipping clutch cause his RPM's to raise really high and the car doesn't move faster??
i have a single cam, mine does the same thing and i am not sure what is going on it's done it for years and in the cali heat makes it worse. i would also like to find a solution cause it's so annoying now. OP, i was messing with my car the other day when it was doing this, since you replaced the slave cylinder, when you drive your car and it does it, when you come to a stop light, try pumping the clutch pedal to "build pressure" and see if it does it still, i was doing this the other day and it seems as if it helped a lot, i replaced my slave cylinder also and im sure i haven't bled it correctly. |

I only replaced my master cylinder. and yeah, I step on the gas pedal, the RPM's jump almost as fast as if I'm on neutral or stepping on the clutch, after jumping a few thousand RPMs it starts a very weak pull. I think the hotter it gets the worse the pull. At one time I could barley drive it but thankfully I was in my school parking already and didn't have to drive faster than 10mph. |

There are some tests you can do to verify a slipping or bad clutch. But if you have to do those tests your clutch is probably bad. Here's a couple. 1: 3gear pull cruise to the speed of 35mph in 3rd rpm and speed should match punch it, does the rpm shoot up and speed stay the same or lag really bad. slipping clutch. 2. 5th gear test. take off normally in 5th gear if you let the clutch out and the car is still running. bad, weak or slipping clutch. Engine should die way before you release the clutch in 5th.
