Its all been said in the thread LOL!!!
I mean there is even a special Tial housing for the GT2871R on ATPTurbo, but other than that, there is nothing new.

I've been toying with the idea of doing a twin scroll manifold with my 2871. This will require changing the housing, correct? Obviously purchasing a couple of Tial WG's as well..
It's obviously fairly common/popular to rock a twin scroll on the 3071's as spool/response is increased. Questions: 1. What are people's thoughts about doing a twin scroll w/ a 2871 and "upgrading" housing to accommodate 2 wastegates? 2. Have any bottom mount/internally gated 2871 users reading this thread done this? If so, is it worth the $ to do this and how much earlier does the turbo fully come on line? (full boost) 3. Is it worthwhile to "modify" a 2871 internally gated turbo, or would it be easier/better to buy one (if possible) that already is externally gated? Hey, at least I'm keeping the thread alive and interesting... |

Changing the housing? Twin scroll is twin scroll housing and twin scroll manifold. I don't even know anyone who makes it, so pretty shit out of luck there.
2871R's don't boost that high to accomodate 2 wastegates, no reason to. An HKS internal or a single Tial V44 or v38 is good enough. It doesn't push that much psi. I have been toying with the idea, but I run track and a stock exhaust manifold. I can't have that POS tubing break on me at the track so cast is the best. Weld to a cast is not easy to do it the "right way" so I am going to opt for the housing when I have money, but I think it would come on quicker and definitely hold better. Like I said before 2871Rs unless you boosting over 18psi you don't need to get an external wastegate, but if you do, get the special ATPturbo housing that has the wastegate build in.... Yeah 2871R's are sorta played out.... + economy is not doing so great, so not much people upgrading or dynoing... LOL

I like usdm180's dyno graph, very similar to mine. Only difference is that i'm using a GT28RS turbo small trim, and Step 2 HKS cams (256in/264ex). The turbo is holding me back a little which yields to around ~330whp. I've been itchin' to switch my turbo to the GT2871r 64 trim, however just a little scared that i'll lose that quick respsone which i'm so used to. I'll Probably do the upgrade end of this year and post dyno results.
Steve.

^^ jesus...i LOVE your trq lol i wonder that feels like....
well i asked about the turbo's because they have the TD-06 20g which is a mitsu turbo and seems to be doing the evo guys pretty well and is used by some in Japan as well...i dont know.. i dont know what the gt28rs characteristics are but it cant be too far from the 2871r.64 could it? i like my turbo so far hehe havent been able to "compete" against another car of the same power i have yet but on a solo level it puts a big smile on my face!

Yeah I think GTRS is very comparable to the .64. Torque is crazy on my car... it blows most Porsches out of the window on tracks except Turbos and GT's.... It does better than a Charger and the Challenger on the track on exits, but the HP they catch up mid way uphill lol...
Yeah on the track I am pretty scared to bump to 18PSI, cause I REALLY feel the difference, it don't stop... Scared an instructor at Sears Point pretty bad. TD-06 20g is REALLY good turbo easy to rebuild and great torque, but HP is not that great and I don't think the powerband is very linear.... Most still opt for the HKS2835 which is the 2871R .64 I believe....

it must feel nice to blow past cars that cost 4 to 6 times more than what ours are worth huh?! but yeah my main thing is that i also wanted a turbo that can be rebuilt while giving me the power that i want with a good amount of trq..

Its fun... until they start dogging you at the pumps when you get gas.... Best was keeping up with a z06 that was running 325's up back, but he wasn't a GREAT driver, but he's been at Laguna Seca a couple of times. Was always only running 14PSI hahaha... My car was tuned at 16.5PSI, but I think it was because of weather and elevation, that my car runs at 18 when I got back into San Francisco area. Probably air is much cooler here too.... Anways, I am going to repair my front bumper, and install a setrab oil cooler to the side, right now an RX7 FC oil cooler, but its hard to find a spot ofr something that big. O and my car is pretty balanced, but I can spin slicks out top of second ahahah just a little hahah.... (245 bfg r1's)
