from canada with love (sil40 redo)

hi, im canadian. i bought this car from tenesse last feb. from what i understand it's "done the rounds" and been passes around like a red headed step child.. she has been bought and sold quite a few times. well i plan to put a stop to that!
i've already drove it around and beat on it a bit all last summer and now being winter, i am doing a few modifications while it's off the road.

this is the start of hopefully something special..

my sil40

so like i said, the story of this car starts last feb. for me it does anyway.
found on craigs list i decided that this car was too good a deal to pass up, so i set everything up and drove down with my trailer to pick up the car.

on the way home the truck broke down. we had to stay the night in some small ass town on the side of the highway while it snowed all night.

but i got it fixed at a local shop the next day and we were on our way. 36 hours driving give or take an hour from the break down issues round trip.

last year i did a few things to the car, nothing major.
i bought a set of nitto nt05's front and rear..
lowered the car as far as i could with the rear coils seized up.

this is what i found when i pulled them out or the car, someone had used some washers as spacers to raise one side.

anyway, i quickly ordered a new shifter to replace the ebay knock off that came with the car. mostly because it felt like garbage and was hard to get into reverse..

i topped it off with a tomei shift knob..

i ordered a brand new bride zeda III that took like 3 months to come in.

i i switched up the steering wheel that was on the car to a black triple spoke i had laying around from my ae86.

i also took out the air condenser that was in the car and wired up the yellow fog lights on the projectors.

its now winter and i have been messing with the car here and there when i get a chance to.
i bought a new set of wheels from a friend to use as track wheels..

im thinking of putting the bbs wheels up for trade. i'm looking for something different so if you are interested make me an offer!

anyway, im not too bad with a welder and decided that since i want to go lower with the car next year i would need a better way to get the rear end off the ground for tire changes. also, since there is a kit on the car and it never came with a stock front bumper so i decided that i would make some of my own.

on came the bender..

and i started with the rear bumper..

and then added a piece to jack from..

and another piece to tie it all together..

it was a little dificult to fit it all under the bumper cover. i'm going to have to make some brackets for my plate and plate lights. other than that im happy with it.

it was actually a lot of fun. i wish i could have drove the car back! sometimes the story (or road trip in my case) behind the car is just as cool as the car itself.
and as anyone from ontario knows, a clean car is worth its weight in gold! just about every 240 around here has some kind of rust issue. this one has none.

while i had the bender out i started making a bumper for the front.

it fits nice and tight (the ic is crooked in the pic making everything look off)
its not done yet but since i was puting up some pics i figured id show the progress on this too.

the plan was to bend another bar of the bottom but i'm not really sure as to where to mount the braces. the top bar is mounted as the stock bumper would be. the bottom might have to brace against the rad saddle.

i got side tracked and built a bar for my subaru that sits directly behind the front lip and helps to push snow.

I live in Sault Ste. Marie. About 8 hours north of Toronto. I was down for drift mania last summer but I brought the Subaru.
And yes, I'm a member on son but don't ever post.
I tried to sell my corolla there too. Lol

yeah, i said the same thing about the color red. i was told this car is painted in "ppg Ferrari red" and for some reason i dont hate it.. i owned a red 87 300zx and a red 89 240sx before this car and hated the faded factory color on both.
