gt2871 turbo

I have seen two threads which include this turbo, but I've not seen much real info about it. I hear these 2 things

it costs 1300ish from atpturbo, it does 400hp per atpturbo.com's website.

It is a dual ball bearing t28...with the compressor/or exhaust side 71mm correct me i'm probably wrong.

Its suposedly around the same spool time as the gt28rs aka disco potato, but closer to the power of a hks gt2835... again correct me if i'm wrong.

I would like to know what the real spool is like, and when the effeciency will drop off. Also, pricing and the real max hp etc.

Also i'll assume it drops in very similarly to the 28rs, 2835 in that it will fit ur typical t25 flange, yet the oil/coolant lines will need to be modified etc.

also internallly or externally wastgated?

One other thing.... If im not mistaken, the gt28rs drops right in with modified coolant/oil lines, will it clear the LHD steering columun etc...manifold? Also if i put say a greddy/hks/project nissan turbo elbo, will it fit fine ?

Steven,

It's the big brother of the GT28RS (disco potato) and with
a larger (71mm) compressor wheel this turbo can flow up to
400 HP. On a 1.8L to 2.0L, full boost is about 3500 rpm
with a .86 A/R exhaust housing and 3000 rpm with a .64 A/R
exhaust housing.

Cost is $975.

Cheers,
ATP

don't mean to hijack this thread but how does this turbo compare to the gt25r .86a/r? Does it bolt up to the stock manifold and also will it bolt up to a greddy o2 housing?

$975 sounds like a misprint...I bought mine from there for $1311 gt2871r...maybe the "r" denotes a different turbo...They aren't going to sell a larger turbo in the same line for less money (gt28rs vs. gt2871r) Oh, and it's internally gated.

yeah i would really to see dyno results. When i do get my sr powered 240, i am going to be deciding between the gt25r .86a/r and the gt2871r. I wonder which would make more power. I have seen many dynos with the gt25 with cams, obx manifold and greddy intake mani. I want to see dynos from the gt2871r.

Intersted in this 2871 dyno also. And $975? that does seem odd, as the GT25R is about $1200. the GT25R comes in .86 or .64 AR like the turbo you are speaking of.

the 2871 is showing to be a nice turbo upgrade for the SR. We have gotten out quite a few. It does indeed have the 71mm compressor with the larger GT28 Turbine assembly. We have seen the .64 A/R exhaust housing be the most popular.

The spool is very fast and the custom 3" T04E compressor cover prevents any real surge issues.

If you have any direct questions about them please feel free to contact us.

Like TheSparo said, there are tons of dynos on the gt2871 on FA. They've done a load of comparisons between the different A/R sizes that it comes with as well as comparisons between it and the disco potato, all with dynos to prove it. You guys have to use FA more. That is the most valuable library of technichal info about s-chassis's in my opinion. Use it to your advantage.

I got my turbo from The Speed Factor much cheaper than what ATP sells it for, you guys should call them up (probably ask for Martin) and see what he can do for you. I love my GT2871R in .64 a/r on my KA. Yes, I said it, on my KA. This turbo is sooo smooth in power delivery and it doesnt even fall off on the KA, which means it definitely shouldnt' fall off on the SR up top. I hit full boost by ~3300 rpms and this turbo definitely likes higher boost levels. I am at about 9 psi right now until I change over to a daughterboard, then back up to 14 psi where I was before for a short time. I highly recommend this turbo to anyone looking for a direct bolt on to the SR manifold. I've heard you can just play with your stock lines and it will work out, but I'm guessing it's much easier to run the Taka Motorsports lines... or even talk to Martin at The Speed Factor to see if they can hook you up with a coolant/oil line kit for your application. (I of course ran custom lines on my KA).

Garrett did hike everything about 17%. It's quite a killer but we are sticking to the price we offer on the GT2871 until probably the end of the week.
