Road Atlanta PICS**
Well, I had a blast, and learned a lot to boot. Not a single car in any of the HPDE groups had any incidents so that was a blessing in itself.
Met Ahhsk (Oscar), and told him his brakes were too front biased. lol 019 (Yukon) was there, and was really tearin' it up in the novice group. RA is an amazing, and technical track! I will definately be going back someday. For whatever reason, I was by myself most of the time on track and didn't get to play a lot. I did get to put a whoopin on a 96' 944, and a 13 sec 92 GT mustang. I'm running Intermediate - Solo (got signed off finally) Here's the pics: the mustang I spoke of previously. I just passed him exiting that corner.. he had a lot more straightaway speed.. but I crushed him in the corners. It looks like I'm early apexing this, but in fact, I am traveling about 100mph, and carrying about a 5% slip angle.. so it looks like I'm gonna apex sooner than I am. dorifto?! My Instructor's Car.. badass.. couple things from the paddock.. notice the license plate..

wow thats awesome! your wheels almost looked photoshopped on in the first pic. I'd really love to try that out sometime. If you don't mind me asking, about how much does a day at the track like that cost for a newbie like me?

The wheels are painted with a Flouresent Orange safety paint I found at autozone. Sprayed a coating of wheel clear coat on it to help protect from heat, and brake dust. They black light reactive too. LOL.
NASA charges anywhere from $250-$300 for a weekend. Thats for: 2 days, 1.5hrs seat time each day with an instructor, and about 1.5-2 hrs classroom time each day. There are groups that run a little cheaper, and you can do single days for like $150, or event single sessions at Hyperfest's for $40. There is no single $300 part that will make you faster than one of these events, and there is seriously NOTHING more fun you can do in a car. (road head included, lol.)

that sounds pretty awesome. for a weekend of tracktime and instruction, $250-$300 sounds VERY reasonable to me. I'm gonna have to look into these around here.

Damb you both
Looks like a lot of fun. Some day I'll get down there... some day... but at the rate it's going, I might be sitting out of track events for the rest of the year (house + wedding = broke) And Charles, 100 mph w/ a 4w-drift with a wall that close = huevos gigante! |

mark, that turn was sooo much fun. most ppl were too scared to go full throttle, so that's where i'd end up catching up to ppl. i'd tell you how fast i was going, but my spedo is off, so i really am not sure, haha. you should've gone with us!! if you can make it to another event, let us know. i'm trying to make it to Summit Point with MDA in august, so maybe i'll see you there.
i'd love to go to VIR again. it's such a fun course. but i'd like to do the full course. |

I've been to VIR 3 times now. Very nice track. I will DEFINATELY be going back..
Mark - indeed.. huevos gigante! From what I hear, I gave the novice group (who were all standing next to the track watching turn 12) a pretty good show. This is a lambo: Pretty right?? . . . . . . . . . This is a Lambo who got SCREWED by turn 12 at RA: any questions? lol

Yeah, those pics are over a year old. FWIW, insurance actually covered it b/c the driver said he was doing a photo shoot with the car.
jmauld -- love the chase down pics! My shining moment was taking down a 355 in my Miata at VIR. The classic was getting a point by coming around oak tree and then having him destroy me up the back straight without even trying! Ouch. Luckily, it was an accident and he let me by on the main straight -- must suck to have to hold it to 100-110 in one of those. I forgot all about the MDA event at Slummit. It would be cheap and close. Hrmm... I love running with my fellow Miatas though -- and I'd like to kill off my Azenis b/f I have to go through another winter with them. Of course, I've already got two weekends in Aug. that I have to be out of town too. |

I was chasing him through the uphill esses, and through south bend. When we turned past oak tree, he gave me the passing signal and then proceeding to thoroughly walk away from me. (I'm still running the stock KA). About halfway through the straight, he must've realized that I wasn't going to catch him, so he hit his brakes to let me by before rollercoaster. A mustang did the same thing to me later that day.
