car wont start

Replaced my alternator today and fully charged the battery and still wouldn't start. i then used a battery pack and it would still not turn over and the voltage would go all the way down to 9. Do i need a new battery?

wdym will crank but not turn over? can you explain that a bit more specifically ? When exactly does the voltage go down to 9, when you turn the key? If that's the case, go get a new battery, but first it might behoove you to go get it tested first. But i would say it sounds like you need a new battery.

what's changed since you could start it?

It might not be the battery, have you checked all your grounds? I harp on this a lot because almost every time i've had a problem with starting or stumbling, it's been because of a bad ground somewhere... FIRST thing to check...

If you're car is not starting with a starter pack / bump starting i doubt it's the battery causing the problem

Edit: to eliminate / trace the battery as a problem, you could also substitute for a known good one... maybe a friend would let you borrow one from a running car?

i'd say starter if the engine isn't turning over and you've already subbed in a good battery. Also check and double check the starter connections and fuse, maybe ignition relay.

i think your confusing people with ( it cranks but wont turn over ) im pretty sure its the same thing but anyways the car cranks but doesnt start. like the other memebers have said check your grounding cables. go back and check if you connected all the wires correctly. i believe theres only 2 ground cables from the engine to chassis and one from battery to chassis. lastly you never really mentioned any back ground on your car. if it was running before the alternator swap or if it was driveable before.
