Nah, honestly your post is pretty good and thorough really. Mike is just a lighting snob and hates your china tails with a ravenous passion. I just hate em a little...

I mostly like OEM lighting with LED retrofitting. Not sure how "DOT compliant" that is.

If that's what you like then Mike (ixfxi) is your guy, his kouki tails are fucking dope. How legal that is TOTALLY depends on whether or not the person doing the conversion uses DOT legal components or not.

I get my posts deleted and edited all the goddamn time and it's getting pretty annoying. I've been bouncing the idea around with Masai about creating a new forum with only established members allowed. I'm starting to get more and more anxious to buy a domain name and a web service and go through with it. And it wouldn't be the first website I've created and maintained...

OP Cool thread, I love how the Red/Clears look in the day, but at night they look awkward. The Dmax LED one's aren't bad but i agree with the person who said there was too few of them.

You past me and my Fiance on the way to the last FNL when you were with the GS,FC,and the BRZ your taillights are awesome!

The ones I have, don't mind the missing LED, its since been fixed.
Instead of going all the way out to the edges mine have a light tube that kind of raps around, hard to see unless its dark (not installed in the below photo)

Theres nothing to like or dislike. Its either a good, usable product - or a sub-par piece of junk.
So I ask you all this: Why do we work on our cars?

For me, I work on them to upgrade them and make them better than stock.
So, what is the point in installing something that gives you less light, less visibility, and reduces safety?

Shit like this is as useless as those bullshit billet aluminum underdrive pulleys. Its as useless as Nintendo's POWER GLOVE.. its fuckin bullshit.

The problem in the industry is not with the one-sie two-sie fabrications that people make, its with the cheap junk thats mass-produced and brought in by the boat-load. The stuff that is just sitting in warehouses and listed all over ebay. Thats the cheap shit we all need to be concerned about.

Lights that were offered for USDM vehicles have DOT stampings on them and are compliant. The Kouki 180SX tail lights were never available here in the US, they do not have DOT stampings on them - not that it matters much, because they would still meet & exceed their requirements for compliancy. These aftermarket pieces have nothing. If you test 100% of them, 100% will fail.

There is a reason why APC is no longer in business. Maybe some of you guys are too young to remember that fine company.

Hey now, I've got one of those pulleys. Got it for free, still not convinced that it does anything more than make the engine vibrate more though...

You just take lighting matters more "personally" than most because you're in the industry. That was my point. I applaud the effort that the guy put into the thread and I accept and understand that a lot of people are interested in what he's "reviewing". Now would I ever put ANY of that cheap, China bullshit, gaudy LED, non-compliant, fucking ugly crap on MY car? FUCK NO! I would rather smash my nuts with a baseball bat, repeatedly...

I have the clear / red coupe taillights, and even with red LED bulbs it is still too pink for me. I picked up a set of OEM coupe tails, and I am going to put the Radientz 1mm spacing strips in there this winter for the brakes and tint the yellow part red to match the bottom half. I've been watching those 1mm spacing LEDs for a year and they are finally coming down in price.

Cool white bulbs behind red plastic = pink lighting. In order to get nice solid red light, red LEDs should be used.

Maybe just me but I hate the look of undiffused or unfocused LEDs. It looks like a cheap radioshack highschool science project.

Dear Lord, the only stickers that really gave you extra HP. If I remember correctly, the windshield banners were would either double or triple your power if you had the proper supporting mods? You know, chicken wire grills, Street Glow neons, spray painted interior trim and sweet vinyl graphics to accent the logos of the "part sponsors" you had plastered on your door.

I feel old.

Edit: I have nothing to add to this thread, just the sweet sweet nostalgia of yesteryear's rice.
