I'm considering buying a 240sx or 300ZX twin turbo. Why should I buy a 240sx + sr20det + mods when I can get a 91 300zxtt for 10-11k? It seems that the 240 will cost 8-9k to get it to perform like the 300, and I don't think it will look as cool. What do you guys think?

You will spank a stock 300 if you put 8-9k into a 240, as long as you are smart about what you spend the money on and do alot of the labor yourself.
If you like the 300 better and can afford the insurance premiums, go for it. I've considered the same question except I would rather have a Corvette. I think the 240 is a better route because it will be more fun to make it fast. I want a project car but I don't want to start out with an expensive car because I won't feel as comfortable with modifying and racing it. I don't care as much how a car looks as how it performs, so the decision is easier for me. Also, the low insurance costs and low profile (not a cop magnet) are appealing to me. |

Also, a used 300ZXTT will be difficult to find for 10-11000 in good shape. I could have had one for the price I paid for my 96SE, but I didn't want to take the chance on buying a turbo'ed car that would need the turbos serviced or rebuilt or replaced right after I bought it. That is the type of car people bought to drive the #### out of and many people don't know that you have to let your turbos cool down after a hard drive, resulting in turbo failure at an early mileage.

Yes you will be faster with a SR20DET with mods. But... I have owned a Z, and trust me when I say its the coooooolest car I have ever drivin. I will be buying one once I am done building my KA Turbo s14. The cars are in a totally dif class though. The Z is a GT car and the 240SX is a sports car. You decide what you want. I have a 240sx now mainly due to insurance reasons, and the fact that 240SX's kickass. My turbo 240 will walk all over a stock 300ZXTT. I'd day test drive both but you will be sold once you drive the Z compared to a stock 240. So the choice will have to be up to you on what to get. A turbo 240 is ever more rare then a TTZ, and you will love the looks on peoples faces when you spank TTZ and supra's in your turbo 240.

you can get a 240sx quicker with less money than you can with a 300zx, but a 300zx has more potential. full coverage is 283 a month for my friend, just the exhaust for those cars are around a thousand. but when it comes to impressing people, the 300zx turns heads or gets compliments from strangers while filling up. nice cars, but you better be a hard worker.

soon as I get the cash, the Z will be mine, it's my dream car. Seriously, if someone gave me a ferarri i'd sell it for a shitload of money, buy a Z32 put some nice mods on it, and then get a z31, put some mods on that, get an s14, and an s15, (already have the s13) and maybe a VW wagon (so I can sleep in the car comfortably when I got to raves) Hmm... wouldn't that give me a little money left over too??

i have a NA and if i had el ton of casho i would get a TTZ. but, the over all better cheaper way is a 240 sr convertion. the tt u have to buy 2 of everything. and then thay are also heavy and very difficult to work on. been there. done that with many friend and there ttz's. that's that's why im keeping my na Z. sweet car and all the looks style and bad ass handling and gettting a 240 and modding the F out of it. i want a super sleeper. like WesT said nothing better than spanking a hi hp car with a little 4 banger and watchign there faces. im just shooting for stanges and z28, but i will have the pices for c5 food when i get my project rolling. muahahhahahahahhahahhahahahhahahha and the insurance is great on a s14 vs a z32tt.

hehe, not mine. It's either a sports car, or it's not a sports car. That's all they judge by Actually, for a while they didn't even consider any cars different, so I was paying more for a 93 dodge dakota than I was for my 240 because the dodge was 3 years newer.

I have loved the z32s since I first saw one in like sixth grade, but as sweet as they are they seem a bit portly and aging looking compared to the sleek s14's . I'd rather have my '97 240 and do some well thought out mods.

question about insurance... after u turbo ur car doesnt that change some stuff... like insurance... in a BIG way?... i would think the insurance guys would void it if u had a turbo under your hood and werne't paying through the ass to have it there.. just a thought.

well i figure if you slap a turbo on your car theres no real need to tell the insurance folx, unless you want em to cover it, now if you get ina wreck and it thrashes the turbo they might pay to have eveyrthing fixed except the turbo if its not covered in you agreement... i wouldn't tell em though
