S13 needs emergency exhaust stat

Hey all,
My name's Andrew and I joined the forum a while back as I was researching the s chassis and figuring out how I was gonna buy one. Stuff happened, and I ended up picking up a Mazda 6 as my daily because I needed something right then. Now thankfully, I've saved up enough money and bought an s13 to have as my project, and I'm stoked.

The first thing (other than respraying the rims and a couple other bits) that I'm tackling is the exhaust. The previous owner has a set of long tube headers on the stock ka24de, with a gutted cat, straight through mid pipe (no resonator) and a set of ISR blast pipes. The car is pretty obnoxious at the moment, and although it's fun to play with I want to get something that's less offensive. I don't have the money for a full cat back system and eBay stuff is kinda sketching me out, so I want to do something custom. In reading online and talking to some guys I know locally I think that a good resonator in the mid pipe would take it down enough seeing as I'm not dailying it yet. I was wondering what the concencus here was on whether that's a viable option or not.
Thanks a bunch guys!
